There is a guy in southern ohio who has mafia connections who has maps to the old tunnels. Younger guy. He use to live in huntington. You wouldnt believe the stuff that use to go on in huntington. This played a lot bigger role in history than you think. Huntington is hiding the existence of tunnels for a reason. Are some of the tunnels closed? Yes. Are some still used to this day? Yes. Even famous people use to use Huntington as a hideout. Maps original title. H.L. Underground...only thing we could figure was Holderbys landing? This guys family funded the tunnels. Their were old mafia bars and hideouts all over. Some are gone, a few still left though. Dont always believe what you see..sometimes the power is right beside you. Im sure I will get negative comments about this posting but the point was to tell the doubtful yes they are real.

From an educated sorce, the undergrown tunnels go to the Ohio River. I'd try exploring near the riverbanks. I have been in part of the tunnels from a buisness on 9th Ave., downtown.
Are there any tunnels that you of that go underneath Ashland, Kentucky ?

I am VERY interested in the tunnels! I would like go down and take some pictures and video to show the history of Huntington to it's residents. If you could help me out, I would appreciate it very much! Maybe we could work out some kind of payment so that way we both get what we want. Thanks!

I lived in Ashland, Kentucky for a short while. I have a cousin who lives there now. I heard that there are tunnels that were shut off to the public underneath that city but I don't know if that is a fact or just another rumor / myth. I've wondered about it though. It's fascinating.

Putting my business name out there probably wouldn't be the best idea.. and to everyone curious .. most of the tunnels and access to them have been sealed off.. I do know that there was a hotel and after hours place that is/was located under ground an the corner of 4th Ave and 8th St.. I possible could get some pics of it.. ill see what I can do..

Not real good with that whole "marketing" thing, huh? Like I previously said, you couldn't ask for a better way to attract business! If your store isn't secure enough to ward off burglars and idiots trying to break in and go down there themselves then spend the money to make it secure then spread the news as far as you can! As already stated, if you own a business that doesn't really have merchandise that is marketable to the general public then set up guided tours for a fee, if you have merchandise that can be marketed to anyone then set it up to include a short tour after buying a certain amount of goods (you could even set it up to require purchasing a certain amount of goods BEFORE being allowed to PAY MORE for the guided tour of what can be accessed by your business. Or, if you know of other entrances that aren't directly connected to any businesses then see about getting a contract with the city to use those entrances for guided tours.

Same to the "mob guy". It really is a no-brainer to realize investing even a large amount of money into making these tunnels safe for tours, possibly restoring them closer to their original condition, and marketing guided tours would be a very lucrative business. I know people in California, seriously, that have heard about the "Huntington tunnels" and asked me about them and how they could get in or if they offered tours. Short of them having restricted access to city personel only (and of course our genius leadership would allow such a lucrative idea to go unused and instead just raise the city taxes) then anyone with the knowledge and money to make these tours a reality would be insane not to do so. Really, what would be a good reason for someone, either the city or a private individual, to not make these tunnels available for tours? It isn't hard to see how well they would do as a local and tourist attraction. What could be down there or part of it's history that would be something so horrible the city still wouldn't want to disclose the historical significance even today? I honestly do not get what it could possibly be. I mean even "making them safe" doesn't really require more than a useable set of stairs or ladder and some lights partnered with a well-written, legal document acknowledging risk and relieving anyone of liability incase of accidents, much like the self-guided and guided tours at Carter Caves. I can't imagine these tunnels being more dangerous than a self-guided tour through an unlit cave and the document you are required to sign prior t entry seems to have kept them free of responsibility and able to remain open.

I heard there is an entrance at the riverfront where a sign says something about its the cities water overflow...which makes sense only therea another tunnel about 10 feet beside it...it looks like it was used to dock boats and, according to legend, used to bring props and live animals to the basement of the KA for shows. This tunnel is very different in appearance compared to the other, it has been concreted to a maybe 3 ft hole, which i dont think would be used for water runoff...the hole is wayy to small. The other one is a sewer because i walked about a half mile deep into it. Althoughh it could have been a tunnel system at once because it is vast. I heard the balltoom is underneath the morris building and it caught on fire in the 20s or 30s and they just sealed it up. I have been active trying to locate these tunnels and if i ever find them. Ill ebe sure to share everything

I used to do service work for an HVAC company in Huntington, and did alot of work for Pullman Plaza Hotel whose owners also own the Morris Building. I've been in the basement of The Morris Building a few times. The elevator will go down to the basement, but pressing the button to go back up does nothing and you will get stuck down there if you let the door close behind you. There is a stairwell that goes down even further but it is flooded. This may have been one of the tunnels that goes underneath 4th Avenue. If the elevator leaves you stranded, then you'll have to find the unlit stairway back up to Backyard Grill and hope the door is unlocked. Then you might have to explain to their management why you were down there. I had an excuse at the time when it happened to me when it was that Island Grill restaurant. You might not be so lucky. Personally, I think the roof and elevator shafts are more interesting.
