<quoted text>Thats awesome that your son is doing well. Just be prepared when he comes off it, heaven forbid. The problem will still be there and he will still be an addict and if he thought Oxy's were hard to come off of, wait and see how hard Methadone is to kick. The withdrawls last months last months, even years. Oxycontin withdrawl is a walk in the park compared a Methadone withdrawl.
Now I cannot speak if your son has a taper. I didn't do a taper, I came off 150mg at once with No taper. It may not be so hard with a taper. Good luck to you and yours. I hope the best for your son.
My husband went to the methadone clinic and just recently left. It was his second time going and I can tell you from experience with him going thru this and coming off methadone it doesn't matter if you taper off or not the withdrawl is the same! He went from 110 to 60 the first time and 110 to 0 the second and both times it was the same! I am thankful that he is clean and sober now but I wouldn't wish that on anyone! The clinic does help some people and some it don't. Some people just go there to trade one for another and stay on it but for the ones that actually go there to get off of drugs I believe it helps! You have to want help and you have to want to get clean and stay clean bottom line.. If not then your wasting your time!!

Oh yeah at the clinic I go to you can choose to stay on methadone for the rest of your life if you want to. So dumb and there are people there that have been there close to 10 years and getting their dosages increased now how is that helping you to get off methadone? I have nothing good to say about methadone clinics!

<quoted text>Good for you that you got clean on your own, but I still dont have any respect or compassion for addicts who continue in that lifestyle. As you know you have to want it more than anything in the world. My question is what makes an addict began using in the first place? Fun, peer pressure, recreactional using, they all think it is fun fun fun in the beginning and then they try to stop and boom they cant. I have been raised with an alcoholic father, have a drug addicted son , and believe me, I know addiction and what it does to people and frankly, I have no pity nor compassion for any addict, as they do nothing but inflict pain on their families. So you can spout your obscenities all you want, but you are just one of the lucky ones. You know the percentage of addicts being clean for very long. I have my opinion and you have yours, so I hope you clean up your mouth as well as you have cleaned up your life.

I work with people who are drug addicts. They are advocators to the "clinic". They continue to do drugs. They laugh how they can legally get their high cheap. They encourage others to go to the clinic. Costs less. They steal your tips, sometimes come in sick as a dog and puke everywhere and leave it for others to clean up. I caught one person snorting coke in the bathroom. They get hateful and cranky as crap and a pain in the butt to be around. They lie, steal and do whatever it takes to continue their addiction. They claim the clinic is their "treatment center" then laugh. Drugs hurts not only you, but those all around you... from family to friends to co-workers. It's best to never get started. It's not as great as they claim once the jeanie is out of the bottle. It ruins lives, period.

i love how many of these clinic attendees, hang in and around the McDonalds for most of the day----what jobs are they holding, to be flashing the $100 bills, that they do. They are still very much of the drug culture and lifestyle. What a joke

I can't agree with you enough! I used to go to a methadone clinic and I learned quite a bit. For one thing the so called counselor I had was a criminal. She had been in trouble in 6 counties and at one time she was a fugitive. I don't know if she was still using but I do know she still lived as an addict. She knew how to manipulate the system and taught others' how to also. She still scammed and lied just like any other addict. She kept trying to tell me I was an addict. I was NOT an addict. I never was and never will be. What I was was dependent on pain pills because my Dr. kept increasing my dosage for my back problem. It got to the point when I quit taking the pills I went into withdrawals. I didn't know anything at the time and my wife was in the hospital dying and I heard about the methadone clinic so I went there. It turned out to be a huge mistake and am glad I got out of there. I would never recommend anyone to go to a methadone clinic. They don't even check to find out if you have any health problems like heart or respiratory problems. The so called doctor they had at the clinic had been in federal prison for 10 years for being caught giving out narcotics illegally and also for insurance fraud. The first dose of methadone I received, no one told me that I shouldn't drive. I had to fight sooo hard to stay awake driving home. I could have killed someone or killed someone else. After that I had to take someone with me to drive me home. No, they need to close these so called clinics and the federal government needs to step in to create a new set of rules and regulations. Methadone is nothing to play with. I was also aware of people selling their methadone to people that didn't go to the clinic and then those people would die because they had no tolerance. These clinics care nothing about the patients and all about the pocket. The person who owns and runs the clinic I used to go to was a so called ex-addict. No if anyone ever tells you to go to a methadone clinic please, run the other way. You are gambling with your life! And to all the people that are pro-methadone saying it has saved their lives, for one they are lucky and two, they don't know what the effects there will be later on in life from the methadone being in their system for so long. Please research before you decide something as life threatening methadone potentially is.

Is there any kind of help to pay for this program. I go to the clinic and it is helping me tremendously but I am unemployed at the moment and have no health insurance. My boyfriend is paying for it for now and wants me to start tapering off of it cause he is tired of paying for it. I feel I am not ready to taper off yet and am afraid I might relapse. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
