Never rent off of Big Green Properties! The owner lies/gets (selective amnesia) to lease college students apartments. You have to lease 12 months or sublet the expensive apartment. Don't take his word for granted; it must be in writing. He is a greedy capitalist. Most of the apartments are very expensive, and have old appliances that raise your electric bill. There is not much privacy either. Things keep breaking, so the maintenance people (who are probably drug addicts)keep pushing their way into your apartment, while you are trying to sleep. Please stay away from BGP; it will be the best decision you ever made!

Did you not inspect the apartment before you signed the lease? They have been very accommodating with me. They've even allowed me to pay rent a few weeks late when I was low on cash. Additionally, have you never rented before? Most leases are set for 12 months. And in all honesty, their prices aren't that bad for how close the apartments are to campus. Green Tree is at least $150 more for a two bedroom. Having said all of that, their maintenance SUCKS. You have to really press them to get anything done. They are extremely slow.

You're lucky! I moved out last year. My rent was well past $500...I don't remember quite exactly, since my mom made out my bills for me. Anyway, the air conditioning/heating unit ran up my electric bill to well above 150 bucks several times. I called to get them to replace the antiquated unit, but it never happened. They were also suppose to fix my bathtub, since it let out water...it was never fixed.
Additionally, I called a maintenance person when I couldn't open my door, and he said, "I I I jjjust don't care." He was making these grunting noises and was high on something. Luckily, I pushed my way in the door.
Concerning the owner, he seemed very nice at first. But he promised me cheaper rent...like $500 before I signed the contract. When I reminded him later, he "forgot" and denied that rent was lower. It wasn't enforceable, since it wasn't in writing.
My apartment this year is much better. The owner doesn't get selective amnesia, like at BGP.

My appliances are new and my rent is reasonable. Better than big green. I pay
425 for a one bedroom, versus 575 for a one bedroom at big green.

I would check your bills later on, because they claim its alright to pay late and then will charge you a late fee 3 months down the road for that late fee.

Never rent from these people. In the beginning they asked for a list of things that is wrong with the apartment, and me being a very organized person - gave them an itemized list with things that I could deal with and things that needed to be dealt with right away. None of these things were ever fixed. Here are some of the problems:
1. I had the threaten LEGAL action to get a new stove that didn't set off smoke detectors all over my house.
2.The place was dreadfully dirty even though they have a "cleaning lady" come in.
3. The place wasn't even ready to rent on the first day of lease.
4. I have had NO WATER for 4 days already. 4 days. and there is nothing happening yet despite my polite calls.
5. the seal under my toilet broke and was leaking not only toilet water but fecal matter --- this went on so long there is an indent where my trashcan was sitting because the floor was so rotted from water damage.

Really, the only way that you can get them to do anything for you is to threaten legal action. IF you do that --- they will fix whatever you want that very day. If not, well expect to be living there with a broken toilet for at least a month (that is if you call and stop by their office nearly every day).

I've rented two apartments from big green. I didn't have any problems with the first one but left after 2 years cuz I was sick of living so close to campus. The second apartment was horrible. Like someone else mentioned, the maintenance people and the owner just come into your apartment whenever they feel like it, no notice. I came home one day to find my cat hiding scared in the closet and he's been scared of strangers ever since. Also, a couple months after I moved in, my hot water heater literally burst and water was all over the front room into the hallway. I went to work that day thinking the guys would fix it up and everything would be okay. Well even though they did replace the heater that day, they apparently didn't think that there would be any water damage to the carpet. Over the next week literally began rotting and it smelled horrible. When they eventually took out and replaced the carpet, they just cut out the damaged pieces and replaced them, which looked trashy. Oh and guess where the old hot water heater ended up? Out on my private patio where I got to look at the thing everyday. Never again!

I was never more pleased to move out of my place through Big Green! All staff was lazy and rude the majority of the time. When I first moved in, it took almost two months to have all the repairs that were needed.(Not everything was repaired, and it was a half ass job) When I requested to have Chris's number to speak with him about all of the problems that were occurring, I was not given his number. I was told that they simply could not give it out. I found this absurd, thinking that I have the right to contact the owner if there is an issue. All of the properties are outdated and not worth the price! Cheap made and not worth wasting your time or money on. STAY AWAY FROM BIG GREEN!
