My name is 'Gullible' and I believe any thing you hill folks tell me. If you tell me a piss ant could pull a truck, I would help you hook that little insect up and start pulling that truck. I would never ever call a hill person a liar, they are just too honest..

I make 92k a year and don't save a damn thing. at my age, I don't want to leave it and I can't take it with me, so I plan to die deeply in debt with a huge grin on my face.

You may use all the excuses you want for not obtaining an education. Life has been easy for me and my Family. I will advise any one if at all possible to get their degree. Your degree will make a great difference in your life, it may or may not make a rich person out of you, but money and material things doesn't make a wealthy family. There are five in my Family, me my husband and three children, and all have our college behind us... And no "Fatman" college isn't a rip off, only to those who use excusses not to attend college.

Well said. College makes a huge difference in whether an employer will even hire you or not. I'm almost done with my medical coding degree & am going back to school after this for my RN. Thankfully I've grown up with accomplished parents that have set wonderful examples of what a difference college makes, my mother has her masters & my father is an accomplished CPA. I understand not everyone has that but trust me, your life can be totally different if you will dedicate yourself to schoolwork for a few years.

I have been a nurse for many years. I just love Labor and Delivery. There is a reason these jobs do not come open often. I really don't work overtime either.

Where did your degree come from?
The University of Rio Grande. They have the ADN and BSN. I will be starting back next fall for my BSN. It's a bit of a drive but I liked the school back then, hopefully the BSN is a likable program also.

Sigh. I remember when people went to college literally for the education. For the refinement. To become well-rounded and well-versed.

I'd say in the past 20 years, 99% of the college students in the US are attending (or attended) for NO OTHER REASON than they think it will virtually guarantee them employment commensurate with the level of debt they incur in obtaining the degree. It's sad and laughable. Proves how dumb Americans are getting.

I recently read an article that claimed that about 70% of college graduates, once they've finished, never open another book again in their lives, neither for business nor pleasure. I believe it.

And to think that not so long ago, people looked down their noses at the stoners and greaser kids that attended "trade" and vocational schools. How stupid of them to attend classes and hope for a job to be the only outcome. ha ha.

I wish I could remember where I read it. It was recent, and it was on a legit. news site. I don't pay much attention to articles that don't quote sources, etc. So yeah, I think it was pretty legit. It was based on the responses of the graduates surveyed. The collective attitude was that they only read what was required to obtain the degree, viewed reading as "work" and felt that since they no longer were being forced, they wouldn't bother. These were adults who viewed reading as a kind of punishment. They took no pleasure in it.

Zaphod, I'm surprised that you are reacting this way. You always tout college, and I get the sense that you've done SOME reading for pleasure, but let's be honest...as much time as you post in this thing, you cannot possibly have the attention span to devote blocks of time to reading and absorbing a novel. It seems as if you don't go two hours without coming in here to poke a few folks and stir it a little. So, I just don't see you ever being able to truly relax with a book. I'm convinced you are suffering insomnia, too. If I had to name an internet addict, you'd be the first name that popped in my head.

And trust me, I know for a fact, from experience, that there are plenty of graduates in this area who never read anything deeper than the sports column. So call me catfish if you like, because I do kind of fit the definition, if you take it from the original documentary. Remember, that guy on the porch toward the end was the one who came up with that. He said the fishermen would throw one catfish into each barrel of the other kind to keep them stirred up so that they wouldn't die of boredom. So I'll take it as a compliment. ;)

the jobs just on there anymore for college graduates. If you can go to college on scholarship or if you do not have to borrow money to go that would be cool. I see lots of graduates who are tens of thousands of dollars in debt and work at minimum wage jobs aand we'll never get there student loan debt paid off. it's a different world now then it was even just 10 years ago.

I have a bachelors degree and only make 25,000...I'm a recent graduate tho and hoping to find something better soon. I will be happy with any amount as long as I have income. I have come to realize it's not about what you have but how much you appreciate it. I have no debt and only buy when I have the money...I am not miserable and living above my means. Life isn't so bad being part of the working poor cause I am smart about the income I do make.
