I got my dog from there about a year ago when she was a pup. She had parvo when we first got her, then treated that and now she is the best dog Ive ever had. Everyone needs to go adopt, i cry everytime i go in there, I just wanna take them all home :)

They do a great service and should be commended. A pity that so many animals are never placed in time ...

Was told that they no longer euthanized animals at this shelter. Anyone know if this is true?

I heard that too, but then I heard they take animals and ship them off other places that do euthanize, just so they can say that they don't euthanize anymore. So I'm not sure.

Those are usually private non-profit places. A state or city ran place will always do what is cheapest.

I recently adopted a dog from the shelter. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. I looked at multiple dogs, and they explained the good and bad about each dog. I knew the dog that I was adopting had some issues that I could correct with some training. My dog was there for 40 days, and was well cared for. She was nurished and loved. When I left with her the receptionist paged over head, and all of the staff came out to say good bye to her. I have had her for a month now, and she is the best, most loving dog I have ever had. Unlike the people at the DMV or unemployement office, these people love what they do, and do everything they can for the animals there.

What exactly is their volunteer policy? When I called a few years ago, I was told that they didn't take volunteers due to the liability.

I was donating to the ASPCA thru payroll until recently. I decided to make a change and give to local shelter. After searching and hearing about this shelter, my $50 a month will go here. We got 2 little dogs from a shelter in DC a few months ago, and my heart just aches for these animals.

They accept volunteers now and all you have to do is fill out a waiver and they get there bfore the place opens to clean but ur talking about 7 people cleaning after 100 to 300 animals so I think they do a preety good job

i use to work for this animal shelter a few years ago. i know for a fact they dont get much funding. they can use all the help. dog and cat food old newspapers the even take cans to help fund the shelter. this isnt an easy job. they do clean cages before they open in the mornings but u have to understand there are more then just the animals u see. they have more in the back and outside. most of the time they are shoet staff when that happens its hard to get to all the cages before opening. if there was really blood in an animals poop it would not be out on the main floor for adoption. all animals are checked each day for colds and any signs of sickness. there are people in there that love the pets and some even adopted themselfs.

That place is a joke...the city should put a new crew in there or shut that place down....only a fool would take donations there....the employees take what they want from the donations .... the staff is two faced and do what they want...they we're audited this year because of missing money....and if they were that desperate for money then they should have taken the $2300 for the horse they have that the director refuses to adopt out ....and before its lied about no the horse is not a part of a pending case like they tell everyone!!!
