Churches don't hold communities together, not ours anyway.
Do they help? Sure they do, but collectively, amongst all of them, they take WAY more than they put back. The amassed donations and tithings in even the smallest of churches would amaze you, most of them have money to burn. Drive around, look at the pristine condition of the churches. The most compelling evidence to me is that even thought Huntington has lost half of residents and less than half of the businesses ( in number) remain, since the 80's, only a couple of churches closed down, to be replaced by bigger ones like the behemoth on Johnstown Road off of 5th street hill.
Small churches have money to burn? Are you kidding, or just stupid? I don't know of any small churches (less than 100 regulars) that have "money to burn." Churches are in good condition because most of them employ only one part time janitor or custodian, and maintenance work is done by CHURCH GOERS via volunteering. Please, PLEASE stop being so ignorant. Go into a church office one day and ask about the operations instead of assuming such atrocities.

We do. My church has offered MANY children's programs- from vacation bible school, free daycare, sports events, free weekly dinners for those who cannot afford it, and finally- a Christmas Angels program that many area churches partake in to provide gifts for children in our community.

The only thing I've called anyone on this forum is ignorant-- because they are. These people have no idea what actually goes on in a church and don't care to take the time to become educated about what DOES happen. Christians are just like everyone else- we make mistakes, lose our temper, do things we shouldn't, etc. God gave us free will and we acknowledge that we are NOT perfect! We're just like everyone else, except that we ask for God to forgive our sins and help us to act more like He would. People not going to church because of something Christians say is just an excuse. People should go to church to form a relationship with God and worship him, not because of the people there.

Good post.I wish i had your patience but i dont.Though i dont attend church i do however defend christians. I fight fire with fire.If i have to lower my standards so be it.And though i dont portray myself in the best light i still got a leg up on these evil shits. After all, Christ upturned the tables and chased the money changers from the temple one day didnt he? He sure as hell wasnt being passive that day. But we're wasting our time. These are reprobate minds we're dealing with. They were given over to their own way of thinking long ago. They therefore cannot discern truth as it pertains to God. They're not allowed to because its a curse put upon them for the damage they've done. They've been rejected because they've rejected his word and/or exsistence. and have you ever noticed that no matter what king of probabilities (like fulfilled prophesy) is put to them they become angry. Not polite rejection but ANGER. This just proves theres something amiss with these people. Just like the bible says there will be haters of God.Perhaps we should thank them for fulfilling prophesy.Everytime they do, it just reaffirms my belief and faith. hahahahahahaha

Go back and read my post ( you know, the one that got copied in your reply) before the personal attacks.
I never wrote small churches have money to burn I wrote "most churches have money to burn."
Are most churches less than 100 people? Is " less than 100 regulars" a number YOU came up with that denotes a small church? Yes. I never wrote about numbers. Lastly, what compels you to believe that the treasurer of the church would EVER be honest about the money ( which is mostly tax free cash) they receive?

1. You wrote, "The amassed donations and tithings in even the smallest of churches would amaze you, most of them have money to burn," in which one would assume "them" refers back to the original subject- small churches. Basic English.
2. Does it matter what qualifies as a "small church"? I fail to see how that changes any variables of this debate.
3. You're assuming treasurers are untrustworthy and claim the church receives less than it actually does, taking some of the money for themselves? Or did I misinterpret your accusations? For one, there is usually a council or committee in place that tracks finances for a church, which have numerous ways to verify that the money received is accounted for. How many times have you read in the news that a church treasurer has embezzled money? Probably never, at most, rarely. I don't even know why you'd ask such a preposterous question. You trust a bank with your money, what's the difference? Wait, are you the "beware" guy from the BB&T forum?! Not everyone who handles money is out to steal it, and churches are home to the most honest people I've ever met, whether you want to believe that or not.

Like they need an excuse? Piss on em. Quit blaming christians for every damn thing sick in their lifes. Go pick on the moslems, they're the cause of unrest in the world. But that wouldnt be fashionable or pc would it? No, the chickenshit libs must start at home to break down all barriers of any decency and/or moral restrictions before they start on those abroad.

1. No that's not basic English, that's basic misinterpretation.
2. You brought up what qualifies as a small church, not me.
3. Yes, officers, elders, reverends get caught embezzling money. Just because they carry a black book doesn't make them any less human. And no, I dont trust banks with my money.

I believe since mankind understood the concept of manipulation, human beings have littered the world with false god's with the intention to either control the populous or actually bring some good to their community. However the issue being that there are so many churches is obvious isn't it? GOD NEEDS YOUR MONEY!

Kudos to Poet, Everyday I read more and more how the Christian faith is being ridiculed and persecuted. From our military right down to our public schools. It's awesome to finally hear someone defending Christians. Maybe it's time that we as Christians start fighting back. Just David did with Goliath, just list Joshua did at Jericho, Just like moses did at the Red Sea against Pharaoh and his army. Christians we have turned the other cheek and had it slapped too! Its time to fight back!

God needs souls and and all that he requires to accept them like praise, love, obedience, goodness ,and most of all the acceptence of the Christ as a way of redemption. This may seem symbolic but none the less the purpose is that no evil will enter heaven. This is because to show having been saved one is forgiven and therefore can enter heaven.God will not look upon sin and since its symbolic this shows willingness to be absolved of that sin. The tithes to churches is to assist in the earthly work of helping bring the unforgiven to the message and the message to the unforgiven. Yes, sometimes these tithes are abused by greedy persons. But this is the human side of christians giving into temptation. And as always, God sees to it they are reprimanded. They're always caught up in it.They are humbled before God and man and then ask forgiveness and are brought back into the flock. This my friends is what separates christians from the rest.Though there are perhaps more honest non christians than those few christians that have given into temptation the latter have something else, REDEMPTION. And to God,thats the #1 priority. A self proclaimed righteous person without redemption is worse than a saved christian who has sinned.Afterall, though we are judged according to our works we are saved through grace.
