Yes it was not all new employees obviously seeings how they only hired 11 at Huntington and 16 at burnaugh. So if they laid off 74 I believe if my math is correct...yep it is... That would mean that it would have to be the 11 they hired plus 63 more hourly union guys in the plant. The bottom 74 people duh.

I believe the layoffs were done strictly by seniority!
So you must be within 74 from the youngest in the plant.
How do you think the Union could make them keep you when they say they don't have any work for you?
We all know the management decisions suck, but how can you blame anything on the Union?
Your probably one of their sucks that think they should keep you because they like you!
No shit Mr. Holmes. Did it take you a college degree to figure all this out? Could you also explain to me how you came to your conclusions? The unions dont do anything anymore except take union dues while fattening the pockets of the upper guys in the union for doing nothing. They're also one of the reasons for so many jobs being shipped overseas. Im all for the union but it has gotten ridiculous how they're ran anymore.

Of course you do everyone does. I know for a fact there shutting down the plant and sending our work over seas to china where they have been building an alloy plant that does exactly what we do plus more. No more use for us now.

WTF should the Union have done, dumba$$?
Do you think it would help if they remind them that you swallow every chance you get?
They know that, the Company doesn't give a $hit!
Tell us, old wise one, what could the Union do to keep you from getting laid off?

If I'm not mistaken the new contract prevents them from starting over again so when he comes back he will be able to get in the union after 30 days. You can call this place a joke all you want but he's not going to get another job like this around here that I can promise you.

I was playing about the union doing anything. I'm sorry you couldn't see the sarcasm with all that supervisor sperm in your eyes. You're probably one of the guys who sits on their old fat ass doing nothing but is the first to complain when something doesn't go your way. You're also probably one of the ones who voted in the new contract with no real understanding of it and thanks to you and the rest we got screwed as usual.

Amen. Forcing people on Double time then lay people off before they even get trained on any jobs. Who knows what happen after this order. According to supervision there is 5 years worth of work if this initial order goes good. Sound familiar ?( Sino Pec ).

Once upon a time, there was a strike at INCO in '98-'99. When it was over, the union (negotiating commitee / mill commitee / officials) agreed with the company to allow maintenance employees to work while production employees, WITH MORE SENIORITY, were laid off. The maintenance employees were then used to do production work or whatever the company wanted to do with them during this time.

The production guys who were laid off were told that the younger maintenance employees, who were in the plant working, would gain no seniority. This would keep them from displacing anyone of their position on the seniority list.

Guess what? That is exactly what happened. Hire-in dates for the production employees were changed, showing the dead time for the layoff but the maintenance employees hire-in dates were unchanged. This happened to me first hand. Two guys that I hired in with, that were younger in seniority, who were in maintenance, never missed a day of work during the layoff. Their hire-in dates didn't change, mine moved back the 3 months that I was layed off. They moved around me on the plant seniority list.

This is a fact and there were a good number of employees effected by this little smoke and mirror trick. The union(same as listed above) told those of us who were getting laid off that this would not happen. Take this for what it's worth, you can't believe anyone at that place. They'll ALL tell you what they think you wanna hear.

What has happened had special metals Is tragic so many people in these poor economic times losing their jobs. We need someone to step in and fix this. You would think at a time with elections coming up someone would want to fix this for a political move. We need Obama for another term!

FOOL, millions have been laid off because of the uncertainty Obama has caused. Would you invest your money to start a new business right now????
