My mom always told me there were tunnels for the actors and animals to get to the Keith Albee. But I thought she said they came from the train tracks because they came on trains. That's how I remember it.

There are tunnels and basements with tunnels everywhere. Every building on 4th, 3rd and 5th ave near 9th,10th and 11th street have them. They interconnect with the respective buildings on that block and end at the alleyways. Some are sealed and some are caved in but some are intact. I've been in three buildings on 4th that have them.

If anyone want's to check out a spooky tunnel. Drive through the Dingess tunnel. It's nearly a mile long and was a railroad tunnel to begin with. Now it's a one lane car tunnel. Dark, damp, and spooky.

There is a tunnel that goes from the Keith Albee to the Fredrick but all that it is or was, was a route for wiring where the buildings shared power years ago. Sure there are storm drains 5 feet tall that go all around the city. The main entrance or the only one I'm aware of is across from basket robins on 16th. But occasionally you can find a man hole in the middle of about any intersection and lift it up and see the ladders that take you to the tunnels. In the 60s they could be accessed. Even 20 years ago you could easily get in then but last couple I have seen had fell in etc.

Years ago I worked as a mechanic at an auto repar facility that was next to the original Golden Bear.
There was a baricked up tunnel in the basement of that building which I was told had originally been a restaurant.
I was told that the tunnels had been used during prohibition to move alcohol.
This came from the nephew of the woman thatowened the building.

How can I get there?

This is not true. There is not, and never was a tunnel between the Frederick and the Keith Albee. They also never shared power. Why would they? The Keith Albee was built 19 years after the Frederick, it would make no sense for them to share power. Further, the original electrical switch gear from 1928 is still in the basement of the Keith Albee. You can go down to the Keith Albee and ask Junior or Bob to give you a tour of the basement. You will find no tunnel, nor will you find evidence of a tunnel that has been sealed off. Even the Hyman family, the people that built the Keith have publicly stated that there are no such tunnels.
