I have heard rumors, does anyone have any information regarding the tunnel legends in Huntington? I am trying to research as much as I can for a book that I am writing. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have searched endlessly on the Internet to no avail. I am intrguied.

I have a friend who worked at the old Chilli Willi's and has told me there is an enterance to the rubble system in it's basement.

I've heard rumors that there are access points in the basement of the Huntington Arcade, as well as the men's bathroom in the Keith Albee. I do know there was serving boarded up in the bathrooom when I was a kid/teenager in the 80's and 90's but was never brave enough to try an access it.

I too would love to know about the tunnels. If you discover any information please share with us, or at least remember this thread and tell us how to get a copy of your book when you finish.

Thanks.

There is a Huntington paranormal group that gave a lecture about the tunnels. They have a historian that looked them up. There is one under the Frederick building they say. You can find out about the group at the library and how to contact them.

There is a tunnel under Keith Albee that passes under 3rd Avenue. There was an episode of Up Late, a Marshall University talk show, a year or two ago and they went into the tunnel under Keith Albee. An episode may be on their YouTube channel marshalluplate.
I've also heard that there was a tunnel under 5th Avenue where the Flint Group Pigments is located.

This topic really interests me. I'd like to know any secret tunnels of Huntington.

I don't know about tunnels but the storm sewers under the city are about 5ft tall, we would walk for miles under the city in the sewers back in the 50's

Too bad the tunnel didn't cave in on the Up Late crew to spare us from the crap that followed.

All questions and no answers. I read someone above asked you if
you would share any information that you found or at least tell him/her how to get a copy of your book when it's done. You ignored that person as well as ignored the questions of others yet you still ask us for help so YOU can write a book.
How about a little exchange of information here?

Back in the mid-late 80's, I worked in the old Stone & Thomas building when they were still around. There is an opening to the tunnels in the basement. I think all the tunnels are linked together, because on of the guys from receiving used to sneak into the tunnels and would bring back popcorn.

Most of the tunnels on 4th Avenue were used as access for the vaudeville performers years ago. They would perform at The Keith and use the tunnel that took them across to The Fredrick Hotel. Most of the tunnels' access have been bricked up. For instance, the jewelry store beside the Keith built a brick wall between them and The Keith for obvious reasons. I used to work for the theaters and we would walk through the portions under The Keith. Pretty creepy, awesome stuff!

When I have enough information gathered and some leads have been verified, I would be glad to share my information with anyone who wants it. I am trying to work on a book about Huntington past but I have run into several roads bumps.

There is no tunnel there. I know the gentleman who has taken care of the theater for decades. I have toured the entire theater as well.

I worked in the Frederick Building when it still operated as a hotel in the the 60's and well into the 70's and I can confirm that there was a tunnel interconnecting the basement of the building with the Keith Albee. The tunnel was later sealed and subsequently caved in as a result of fourth ave traffic/construction. What remains are two boarded up entrances, one on the Keith Albee side, and one that is more difficult to locate in the basement of the Frederick. Anyone saying they have recently been through said tunnel are not being honest.

Note, I was in the basement of the Frederick building last summer - while the walls not facing the direction of the Keith Albee are several feed thick, there are sections of ply board and wood covering a spot that faces the Keith Albee.
