You must have a good high efficiency heat pump

<quoted text>Come on. Everything is new? I doubt it. You put in a new heat pump? A new hot water tank? New windows and appliances?

I doubt you did. What you probably want to look at is your heat pump or got water tank. Your heat pump uses more energy when the temps outside go below freezing. We had a lot of below freezing days the last couple of months so that could explain some of your increase. It could also be stuck in auxiliary or emergency heat mode. If it is then that's your problem. Also check to see if both elements in your hot water tank are working. If not there's your problem. The thing us that its really easy to measure electricity. People use enough on their own and the utility companies are regulated on what kind of profit they can make. So there rally is no incentive for the power company to just jack your bill up and risk millions in fined for a few hundred extra bucks from you.
My aux heat strips are not even connected. My heat pumps will keep my house. 65F to 70F on heat pump alone without aux strips. Both my heat pumps are new R-410A refrigerant units. The new refrigerant heats better than the old R-22

We put in a new one about 5 years ago. It's mid-range effeciency but we changed all light bulbs to compact flourescent. Any appliances we have replaced (tv's, dishwasher, washer and dryer, are Energy Star and we are careful to only use lights when we are in a room. We also low flow shower heads which cuts the amount of hot water we use and water itself.

Why don't you try using less electricity?

Part of being an adult is paying for what you use.

Have you asked them to come back and reread it, or look at your previous bills and see if you have an insulation problem or a water heater leak possibly. I know they keep raising their rates, but if theres something wrong in your home it will only continue to get worse.

I think AEP should be less cold hearted.
I have two small children ages 2 and 1 and me and my husband was both laid off and we have been looking for jobs. Finally we have one. Well aep never cut our power off until it got really high and this is me and my husband paying on it regularly when we could. It ran up to $2737.63 and they would not put us on a payment plan. Well the other day they came out and turned our power off and said just because you have children don't mean we have to give you service. I understand that to be true, but could they care about their cutomers and kids who have to go without. I know its my job as a mother to supply for them and I do my best. I would do anything for them! I just wish they would be more considerate and not so cold hearted. We don't have the money to pay and we have called every where for help and no one can.
Call the governors office, they are the ones who gave aep the rate increase.

Hey Whiners, won't you turn your heat down, keep it on 60 if you have to, get another job, get a small house, stop having children you can't afford, do whatever, but stop griping about it, no one cares! Your bills will continue to rise, everything will; except for your incomes of course. My advice would be to figure something out fast, but whining and crying on this board will do you no good. Good Luck.

Uhh. They live on an island. It's also a beautiful island that is a favorite among vacationers. Did I mention it's a beautiful majestic island and that people should be so lucky to live in paradise. I don't believe 44 cents per kilowatt would deter me. Not really gonna feel sorry for them. We live in a shithole. 2nd worst city to live in and 30 minutes from the no. 1 most shittty place to live.
