Has anyone else noticed an extra 1% tax on purchases from this walmart? I thought the 7% tax was only in Huntington city limits?

Actually, the one on Rt 60 is outside the city limits and should not be charging the tax.

When the tax was first introduced they were charging it as well. Eventually they offered refunds on those who had paid it. The legality of his seems fishy and should be investigated further. As Jay stated, they shouldn't be charging the tax.

Wal-Mart on Route 60 is NOT within City limits and never has been. The location was partly selected because it was out of the City limits; while still within Cabell County it would benefit from County services and subjected to County property tax and assessment, it would not be and is not subject to City. I cannot see the legality of them being entitled to assess the additional 1% sales tax (authorized by the State under Home Rule as imposed by the City Council).

I went back & looked at my receipts from the last few visits there & I was charged the extra 1%. Are they supposed to be charging it or should I request it back? Thank you all, I never even realized it.

Here is a link to the story last year when they were charging the tax.
http://www.wowktv.com/story/16436250/walmart-...

It also notes that the Walmart in question sits outside city limits.

To anyone who has receipts showing the extra tax, I would suggest asking about it next time you go in. As far as I'm aware no other stores in the area which are outside city limits are charging this tax. Can anyone confirm this?

I tried contacting the city of Huntington regarding this issue, but got nowhere :/

That's why they charge it because they are within city limits

Both of the above sites show the Walmart in question being outside city limits and city districts.
