I went to river cities to get my tires rotated and my oil change the other day. I had bought the tires there, and had my oil changed a couple of months ago and they seemed really nice. I left my car and went to eat with my family this time, and when I went to pick up my car I noticed my bill seemed pretty high to have just gotten an oil change and rotation done. I was in a hurry to pick up my daughter though, so I paid it and left.
I got to looking at my receipt shortly after, and noticed they had replaced an air filter and charged me $40 for it, without even asking me if it was okay or if I wanted it, or even telling me it needed it. I strictly told them JUST a rotation and oil change. When I talked to the manager he was very short with me and told me just bring the car back to them the next day and they would refund the money after they took the air filter off and put my old one back on. How am I really gonna know they're gonna put MY air filter back on and not someone else's and potentially mess up my car?

Needless to say, I won't be going back there, ever again, and I will not recommend anyone I know go there either. Very unprofessional, and very rude!!

Similar thing happened to me. Not that long ago, one diagnosis that was minor by the next day was spool much worse--and yes Ed got a little short with me. My father a retired mechanic from out of state -- said "fluky". Feel bad cause trusted them and that's hard to find. Maybe they do ok with brand new cars and high end tire sales , and good with business vehicle contracts.

Yeah, I also want to add that my rear driver wheel bearing is going bad, and needs to be replaced ASAP (my car is at the garage right now), and they didn't feel the need to tell me that either. I'm no mechanic by any means, so I'm not sure if that's something they would have noticed just from rotating my tires, but I'm pretty sure it is and if not they should've still heard it when they drove my car. I'm pretty disappointed, and I will not be going back there.

In your original post, you said you were getting a rotation and oil change. They prob would not have noticed your wheel bearing since they didn't drive it. On a tire rotation they very seldom take a car for a test drive afterwards. And a garage NEVER takes a car for a test run after an oil change.

I've went to river cities for years and won't go anywhere else. It's a very good place to go to for tires. I don't use them for mechanic work as I do my own but for tires it's the best!

Well thats what I think they can move tire customers through therefore making $$$, I've found them less content and "nice" when work is needed

They have so many cars through there in a day its pausable they made a mistake and changed the wrong airfilter . Im sure it coulda used it anyways so dont take the chance of getting your old filter back. It would be different if they charged you for something they didnt do.

I understand that, but to not even ask or tell me before they did it and then charge me $40 for something I had no idea was being done or given permission for is unacceptable. What if I had been the type of customer that went there on a regular basis and known the price ahead of time and only took that much money with me? Anywhere else I have been has asked me before they did anything other than what I asked them for.

Hmm. Perhaps you should have read your paperwork before you paid. Bet it would not have taken you more than 60 seconds to spot it and I am sure someone would have corrected it for you. Just sayin...

They don't even give you a receipt or paper work until AFTER you pay for one thing, and for another my daughter was with a sitter and I had to go get her. Obviously you don't have kids or you would know sometimes you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of actually raising them to pay attention to little things like that. It's not my responsibility to make sure they're doing their job right, it's theirs, and the only way they were going to correct it for me was to put my old air filter back on and refund the money for me, which I did not have time to wait for.
