On my way home, the neighbors dog ran in front of my car and although I swerved to miss it, it went under my car and died. It was a total accident and I was shaken I did not know what to do.

The neighbors are due back home late this evening or early tomorrow morning and I am not really sure if I should shoot them a text or just not say a word about it. I am sure no one saw me because we are the only 2 people who live on our road and they are visiting their parents.

I put the dog in the back of my truck and since it was / is cold out, I am not worried about him decomposing. Just trying to figure out if I should tell them at all or how to let them know.

I just am at a loss. I feel terrible but the thing ran right out in front of my truck when I was on my way home from a party. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I only had a few drinks and NO I was not drunk. Just a little buzzed / relaxed.

like seriously shoot them a text?!?! are u really asking that. u was probably not supposed to be driving after being buzed or whatever. i would not want a TEXT telling me you killed my pet. ur post has me kinda upset. first why was u driving if u had been drinking anything? second, wtf - GIVE THEM A CALL and tell them before they get home and u spring it on them. better get it out of the way.

Who leaves their pets outside in the freezing cold and free to run in the middle of the road? I would put it in a garbage bag or 2. A dog will begin to decompose quickly even if it's just a few degrees above freezing. I had one in the back of my truck a couple days ago and within 8 hrs, it stunk horribly. It only got up to 38 degrees and then only for a couple hours. It's sunny outside and your truck will even heat up a little more than the outside temperature.

Put the bagged dog in a shady spot near your house. Leave them a note. I wouldn't necessarily tell them you killed it. That's beside the point and they may start looking to put the blame on someone else. I would simply say that you found it dead on the road. In the note, tell them where the body is. Hopefully, they will learn their lesson concerning responsible pet ownership. If not, just scrape the next one off the pavement and toss it on their porch.

First off animal lover, him drinking isnt what caused the accident. The dog was off the leash and ran out in front of him. There's a county wide leash law.The owners are responsible.People visit bars to drink and then they have to drive home.Wanna stop it? Change that law to make bars illegal. No dont! We've had enough laws passed everytime theres a damn accident.Everytime something happens someone runs to government asking for more rules, regulations, laws, licence s,fees,restrictions,etc.etc.By the way, know anyone interested in buying some fox pelts? I leave my dogs outside. Some dogs have been bred to withstand harsh temperatures. Just saying. I don't however let them run wild.

Why even have a pet if you keep it outside? I'd like to leave you outside when it's 10 degrees and windy. Ever think about giving your dogs to a family that will appreciate them?

What happened if it had been a child and not a animal. First of all you shouldn't have been drinking and driving. And yes you should call the owner and let them know what happened.

I breed malamutes...bred to withstand extreme cold. I don't breed them as pets. They are sleigh dogs and spend their entire lives on a chain. Educate yourself before bashing me. They serve a purpose.

That's one hell of a story. I would just put the dog in a garbage bag put it in the bed of my truck and dump it somewhere.
Thanks

This is a hoax! But, in the event that it ever does happened to you just tell them that you killed their dog! Do be a damn lier and try to cover it up.

It was a nuisance coyote I killed. Friends wanted to see it because it was a black one.
