Hope this is an eye opener to all the residents of huntington that our crooked ass police force is incapable of protecting us tax payers who in turn pay their wages. How can you have a standoff carry on for as long as today's, without making contact with the alleged suspect? Being there personally, all the interrogator was able to get out of his mouth was, "Michael, we need to make sure she is ok","Michael we are going to try and call your phone" bla bla. So think about it, they didn't make contact with the suspect for HOURS and HOURS, or EVER until his lawyer called, so they had no idea of anything, dude could have done whatever he wanted to his hostage and they wouldn't have done a damn thing. I don't feel very secure knowing that if I was ever taken hostage in this town I could be left without anyone knowing if I was ok for a good portion of the day, I also don't feel very secure knowing us tax payers have to pay for a bunch of folk standing outside an empty house for their entire shift.

Actually, I know why it took them so long to diffuse the situation, they wanted to wait for everyone to disperse before they made a move so that if HPD/CCS happened to shoot another unarmed person or shot someone else in the back it wouldn't be plastered all over the news and every social media site. Good job covering your own asses, bad job protecting people, which is exactly what shouldnt be happening. I have personally seen HPD shoot an unarmed man at speedway on hal greer and sixth avenue roughly 4 years ago i think it was? I watched him screaming and bleeding in the parking lot over allegedly shoplifting from speedway. Fail on their part, over and over again.

I hope today was Holbrooks call, replacement please.

I live on this block. Yesterday was ridiculous. I got off work to come home and see cameras and cop cars blocking the road. No one was doing anything. The cops were on the street talking to the people who were evacuated, but no one seemed to be taking the event too seriously. Why, then, did the local media choose to scare us when the supposed shooter wasn't even THERE the whole time the street was on lockdown? How can we trust HPD in the face of a real threat?

I actually have no experience with the police, aside from minor traffic tickets, nor do I know anyone personally shot by the police. I have in fact been around these parts for quite a while, and have talked to folks, and befor. I hwdyou say "you probably hang around scum" no that is not the case. Most of these incidents have been explained in depth to me by people affiliated with police officers, upstanding citizens in the community, or by people (no matter who they are) that have witnessed certain events. I do in fact personally know someone who was pulled over for a minor traffic stop by an undisclosed officer (i will not drop names, but he is high up on the totem pole) that took his money along with an ounce of marijuana and told him to go on his way. The incident was never brought to the attention of any other officials, so use your brain, what do you think happened there? I also know someone who has smoked marijuana with an officer who was bragging about how he had just taken it from a suspect and did not turn it in as evidence. You will realize these things one day when you or someone you know are done wrong by an officer or get shot over something stupid.

You are also completely correct about them covering their asses so people don't sue them, because society today is full of people who will sue anyone for anything no matter if they are in the right to or not. Point being, how would you feel if YOU were taken hostage and while the police were outside NOT making contact with the person who took you hostage, he/she were able to have their way hurting you/raping you 6 different ways/and doing whatever they pleased with you.

Also, I have a lot better things to do besides follow police officers around, productive things such as pursuing a college education and taking care of my family. Huntington is a small town, word gets around, you must live in a little bubble big bear, or possibly a doublewide. I was simply sharing something with the topix community (which i have never done before due to the fact that most, not all, of the topix community are cowards who hide behind keyboards degrading and gossiping about folks in a desperate attempt to make themselves feel better/more important). Have a fantastic evening sir/mam. I can't wait until I can leave the land of fiends/fast food restaurants/and obesity. I'm working to better my life and move to a different community where half of the residents aren't riding the welfare wagon their entire lives. Nothing wrong with receiving assistance from the government when you need it, but the majority of people around here abuse it.
