I mean really, why was it? Soldiers throw themselves on grenades or push their buddy out of the line of fire, trading their life for their friends. You guys act like this is some big deal that Jesus gave up his life for THREE DAYS to supposedly save the souls of every human. Lets see, soldier, firefighter, police officer etc, willing to lay down their lives or some demi-god who just takes a 72 hour nap only to come back, go to heaven and have super powers? Who gave more?

The god sacrificing his only son thing is silly as well. He didn't lose him, he gave him up for a three day weekend. Whew, must have been horrid for him.

Oh, by the way, I'm an agnostic but I view christianity as having zero chance of being true.

His sacrifice was the most important because he was pure and sinless. All of these other examples you give are of humans who were born into sin and imperfect. Jesus did not deserve to die but did so for the sins of the world, that includes you and me.

The Soldier, the Firefighter did not sacrifice their life to save "YOU" from hell is the difference.

Jesus didn't sacrifice anything. He zombied himself back to life and then went off to heaven. The other examples actually die, no replay for them.
P. S. It's 2012 give up on the goat herder myths, they are not needed in our world.

When you can prove it is true, atheists will listen. Till then your religion can offer nothing over the thousands of others.

Praying for those of you who insult the name of the Lord. His was the ultimate sacrifice and He came in to the world not to condemn it, but to save it. Man has free will, he is free to believe or not believe. I would hate to be one who did not believe when the end comes and the Lord asks you why you chose not to believe in Him. YFNA said to "prove it", well there have been many signs and prophecies fulfilled throughout the ages and we as Christians have what is called FAITH. Faith is believing in something that you cannot see. Can you SEE the dwarf planet pluto? No, you BELIEVE the readings you have read and were taught in school. You have not physically seen it with your own eyes but you have faith that its there because some scientists say it is. Well, there are MANY books in the bible, but the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are accounts of Jesus' life by 4 different individuals who were with Him. The books were written at different times and give similar, if not nearly exact accounts of Jesus' life, the miracles He performed and the life He led, up til the crucifiction and resurrection. The thing is, if we as Christians are wrong and what we believe is not true, then when we die, we will just die, as you believe BUT if YOU are the one who is wrong you run the risk of eternal suffering. I will take my chances with believing in God and following His Son Jesus and in the end I KNOW I will be in Heaven with Him, and all the Saints. Good Luck to You and God Bless each of you! I am praying for you! Sincerely.

Well, see science has actual proofs of Pluto and yes, they even have pictures of it. So, no, I'm not believing it on faith. That's how science works and religion is just the opposite. As for the gospels being written by eye witnesses, I thought even the most hard core religious scholars had given up on that. The earliest gospel was not written till 65 CE or so, well after Jesus' supposed death. The fact is that there are zero contemporary writings about Jesus.

Also, the whole "if we christians are wrong" thing is called Pascal's Wager and it is pure fail. You are presenting that it is christianity or atheism and it is not. It's all the different sects of christianity(about 1000, some with VERY different beliefs), Islam, Judaism, Ancient Greek gods, Norse, etc, etc. Basically you have "bet" on one religion out of the thousands, this means your odds, with your brand of christianity, are only slightly better than mine. Good luck with it.

The fact that atheists even give a f$%k about any of this amuses me greatly.

Please, great philosophers of our time, tell us why hundreds of millions of people of the world cannot possibly attain your levels of intelligence and enlightenment!

So you think because so many people are theists, this makes them correct? If so your logic fails. Remember, at one point the vast majority believed the world was flat. The bible even supports a flat earth. I think we all know how that worked out.

Though we may disagree on the moon landing, it's good to know you are a fellow atheist. You are, right? Only believe what you can see? That certainly leaves god out.
