How many people in the Huntington area open carry. Have you been hassled or had any major problems while carrying.

I open carry on occasion. Have only had 1 cop stop me. He politely asked for my Id. After he ran my name he said nice gun and let me on my way.

Finding the rights in this municipality are hard to find and get an honest answer. I see in states out west like California it is illegal to open carry with a loaded weapon, what good is that if your life is in danger. I am told we can carry loaded here, thank God. The laws in the city are unclear and as usual I am told it is frowned upon. Arent there statutes in the city and county that make this ruling more clear, if there are I cant find them. Please give input as I am a firm believer in the 2A rights.

Last count I had in the state constitution it's said no city, county, or municipality may adapt and gun laws stricter than set forth in the state constitution. You might want to read up on it that was as of a few years ago when I had a problem with a cop over me carrying.

I know my rights. I didn't have to produce identification but I really didn't feel like putting up with the hassle of a rookie. It was easier to just give it to him and be on my way instead of having to wait for a supervisor or anything else.

I can understand not wanting a loose cannon walking around with a loaded gun, but as earlier discussed if you dont dress and act like you are looking for trouble then they should leave the rest of us alone and go about their business. We are only doing this because it is our right to protect ourselves and others in life threatning times. I can honestly say, that time is now. Not looking to be a hero or cause any trouble but I will be damned if I will be threatened, harmed, or killed by the hands or guns of another. It sad that we cant walk these streets like we used to in the 80's.

As John Wayne put it....

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

I believe these words should have been included in 2A

Make sure if u open carry not to sit in a vehicle with it on ur hip. There is a real grey area there that even with it wide open they can try to consider that concealed. I was nearly arrested a few nights ago for that exact reason. They tried to call it concealed tho it was completely open however i did forget and leave it on my hip when i got in the vehicle to begin with which was my fault. Luckily to me i had just finished target shooting n the gun was empty. It was a huge hassle over a complete misunderstanding that nearly landed myself in jail. So from my experience do not leave it open on ur hip when ur in a car...

Why would you want to carry open? Obviously you have something to prove. When you open carry everyone knows you have a gun and if they plan on committing a crime you will be the first one shot! Get a concealed carry license and carry concealed. That way you have the element of surprise.

I agree with your point too. Some people (not I) can't afford a conceal carry permit and don't want to break the law. If you have to open carry just please dress nice and I swear no one will bother you. I did it for a few years before I got my permit.

Very true act and dress like a dirtbag and you might be questioned might not. But just be safe, appearance goes a long way.

Not trying to prove anything, it is more of a deterant than anything. If someone robs a store he is not looking at who has a weapon, they are focused on getting in and out quick. I agree that concealed is better but the cost of the class, permit and ID is ridiculous as far as cost and in Cabell County the waiting period is forever, even though it states within 45 days. I do agree though if you dress and look like you have some common sence and not trashy looking than people dont think your up to no good.
