Type in Google "open pistol/weapon carrying laws for West Virginia" and u will b more informed than getting info on here. Plz b safe people guns don't kill by themselves,oh and remember if u have any kind of drug charges, domestic charges,or felony convictions U can't own or carry any deadly weapon.

Definately don't get info on topix as WV laws change often. Open carry, transport, crossing state lines, on federal or state property. Do your research. Zippered pouch, lockable container, I could tell u a bunch of "stuff I've heard" but if you are gonna take on the responsibility of gun ownership, you should also take on the responsibility to know the law, not what you read on topix.

Your able to have your firearm as long as it is visible and unloaded the shells need to be minimum 3 steps away so in your trunk !!! In the event your doing anything illegal while carrying your firearm you will be charged with a firearm felony !!!! YOUR GUN MUST BE VISIBLE !!!! If it is hidden that is a concealed weapon !!!

I'm legal to own a weapon. Actually have started to accumulate a nice lil collection. I plan on taking the ccw but with how crazy people are these days id like to be able to protect myself and family till then. I definitely don't want to do anything the illegal way which is why I asked. Thanks every1 for the helpful info.

NO NO NO!!!!! This is a violation of state law!!!! Don't do it I thought the same thing, and was lucky that the officer that pulled me over did not take me to jail for it. EVEN IF THE GUN IS UNLOADED< IT MAY NOT BE CONCEALED WITHOUT A VALID CCW PERMIT!!!!!! The gun may be loaded as long as it IS CLEARLY VISIBLE!!!!!! Even when you are out of the vehicle the weapon must be visible, which is stupid, but that is WV state law!! Nothing against the person who posted here, I just do not want him or anyone else to run afoul of the stupid concealed carry laws here! My sources are the NRA concealed handgun course, OpenCarry.org , ans the WV State Police Website, and Wendell Adkins of the Barboursville Police Department.
i have a ccw in wv and you can have your pistol in your car dosen't have to be apart you just have to inform the officer that you do have a weapon when they ask you do not reach for it let them get it simple. it is not illegal to bare arms just have to be smart about it. hell you can walk with a side arm as long as it is in plain sight without a permit...

Don't get your info about gun laws from anywhere other than the state code. Very few gun owners actually know the laws, as evident by this thread, and the same goes for most cops. The state police has wrong information on their website, and even the state attorney general has put incorrect shit on the AG site and the state's gun law brochure.

Go here and read up:

Here in KY you can have a loaded gun in your car without a concealed permit. It can even be in the glovebox or console and loaded. Kentucky KRS 527.020(8)

I carry mine in the passenger Seat where it can be seen if i was to get pulled over. Of course i put it away when im not in my car. But in West Virginia you are ALLOWED to carry a hand gun as long as it can be seen from 3 different view points. Such as, carrying it on either side of you where it can be seen from the front, back, and the side view (whichever side you are carrying it on.) If you hide the gun it's consider a concealed weapon. Which you need a permit for that of course (100.00 dollars). So it'd be safer to just carry the gun in plan site in your car. And if you should happen to get pulled over automatically put both hands out side your window and make sure that you tell the officer that you do have a gun in the car and ask him or her how or what you could do to make him or her feel safer.
