Does anyone have any idea when the Hotel Farr caught on fire back in the 1920's? I am trying to do some research on the forgotten past of downtown and this particular building is key to my research. Thank you.

Any information regarding the Hotel Farr/Morris Hotel/Morris Building would be greatly appreciated.

The Nances don't run a public library. Go directly to the source of information, somewhere that you can find actual facts with people who will really be of assistance, and can quote sources, show you documentation and share information. After all, your tax dollars pay for it.:)

Go to downtown library. On second floor in reference dept, ask at the desk to be shown the "Local History" room. Mary Lou is one person of many who'd be happy to help you. Tell them EXACTLY what you are looking for. They've got librarians in there that are like fact-finding hounds, and they go above and beyond. They have every newspaper going back to God knows when on microfiche, as well as countless, easy-to use and well-categorized sources of information, as well as many photos. You'll find everything you need there.

It is the purpose of a public library to be helpful and freely share information with all Americans. Please don't waste your time inflating the ego of someone who knows about 1/10 of what they claim, and I believe has yet to provide documentation for most, if not all, of the "history lessons" she's been making speeches about for years.

If you want proof, ask someone at the library what sort of resources the Nances have shared with their community. The last I checked, it was nothing. So if you find out different, please post it and I'll take back my statement.

And PLEASE, people...STOP giving your local neighborhood "historian" your treasured old photographs, never to be seen again. If you have old photos of interest to Huntington's history....PLEASE scan, save to a disc, or photocopy, describe what they are and DONATE to your LIBRARY where they will actually HELP the community, and be treasured and cared for, instead of being shamefully hoarded away to make one person feel important.

Also, there are many amazingly useful sites on the net where you can search for specific events in history.

I am trying to find info on Hotel Farr, I have a tiny silver pitcher with the name on the bottom plus it says International Silver, a little number "8" in a square box above it, and "silver soldered", the item number "03800" and "2 oz" on the bottom also.
I would like to sell this on ebay but don't like to list knowing nothing about it.
Thanks for any help!

History Helper- I know it's sort of off topic but you mentioning the local library and describing it the way you did makes me think you must be pretty familiar with it and it's employees. It probably wouldn't do any good but the next time you're there you should consider telling the librarians to contact Wayne co. And Cabell co. Schools and offering to go into the schools and speak about how to navigate a library properly. I am going to be graduating Marshall in the spring with a degree in teaching and I have been in more than one school in both counties that when libraries are mentioned the kids have NO CLUE how to find things in a library. I looked at the requirements for teaching about navigating a library and couldn't believe how little time is meant to be dedicated to it. God forbid they ever want to research something that isn't on Google, they'd NEVER find it. It's very sad also, I know technology has taken a lot of the need for print sources away but they can't provide the same information in many cases that a well run library can and like I said, if the Internet ever were to go down long-term all the information at the library would be practically useless for many because they wouldn't have any idea how to find it. I know COLLEGE STUDENTS that can't find their way around a library! Technology is great, but just as a GPS will never be as reliable as a compass the Internet will never be as reliable as a library.

I have heard stories about the elevator cables snapping back in the 1920's therefore the lawsuits changed the Hotel name.
