I heard they are so tough that they will can beat some boys basketball teams this year. Is it fair for them to remain Class A ? Do they actually recruit the majority of their players? Does WVSSAC need to have another classification for elite teams like this? Where do the players live if the majority of them are from other places throughout the United States? Are their parents living with them in Huntington? Have they been adopted by another family or not? Someone please share a little information about these talented players so the public can understand more about how they are so successful. I saw them last year at the State Tournament and they were tough.

Its a well known fact that Shannon Lewis recruits kids from WV, OH and KY to play at St. Joe. I work with the parent of a St. Joe player. When you are a private school, you can do that.

Mr. Cowboy,
The girls team at St. Joe is not the team that you are describing. They are indeed very talented, however these girls are not from places throughout the U.S. Although some may be recruited, you are thinking of the boy's team called Huntington Prep. These players do come from all around, and are recruited to play. They do live with host families and attend St. Joe. T
hey do not play for the St. Joe basketball team itself. The Prep players are absolutely fabulous and have beat some college teams. The S.J. girls team probably played during a game of theirs, or a tournament of some kind. They are very talented, like I said, but they are not as though you described.

MrNormal i know several st.joe parents whos kid play for coach lewis. the current starting 5 have all came from st.joe middle school their 8th grade year, although one did move in their 8th grade year, you are allowed to go wherever you want for high school if you go before your 9th grade year.

why is coach lewis getting blasted because he plays and seeks out the best competion for his teams, he plays a very tough schedule year in year out, that is getting the girls ready for the next level, instead of playing paw paw, hundred, hannan, like some other local instate teams, if you have a winning program the kids will come.

why dont you talk about the other schools that are trying to recruit st.joe kids, its ok for a public school to go after st.joe boys or girls players but not vice versa.

lets see 2008 a runner ups, 2009,10,11,12,13 a state champions it was either the 11, or 12 team that was ranked 10th in the midwest region, in usa today.
like i said if some of these other local teams want to pad their records , by playing some lesser teams like i mentioned before, and then be one and done at the state tournament, go right ahead. and i hate when people say coach lewis wont play me, he will play anybody anywhere, anytime,

thanks you coach lewis for seeking the best possible teams for your girls, to play getting them ready for the next level!

and ps my ex wife, he thinking about sending my two twin 6'4 daughters to come play for you, they are only 8th graders, i hope my ex gets that job offer back here!

They have a few talented ball players but their reign at the top is about to be over after those talented players graduate. But taking nothing away from the girls they practice and play hard so I'd say yes they could compete with quite a few HS Boys teams. They're very well coached and they know what it takes to be #1...

Does the wvssac govern st joe also? If they were doing anything illegal, the would have been penalized already right? I think its just a case of parents trying to do whats best for their kids academically and athletically.

The same could be said for wayne football. Should they still be playing a AA schedule? A private school can recruit

This comment makes no sense whatsoever, public school, all the kids live in Wayne area, all played football from E-team up for Wayne. Wayne High School enrollment dictates they play double A football. Dumb comment.

As a student at St. Joe and the child of a teacher there, I can tell you all that the girl's basketball team does NOT recruit from around the country. As a private school, St. Joe has open enrollment as long as you can afford tuition. Many students live in Ohio and Kentucky, as well as in WV, but can commute within 45 minutes or so. Most live in Ironton or Ashland or Barboursville.

I always loved playing them in school. It was a sure win. I'm sure it hasn't changed.

Anyone who thinks that St Joseph High School goes recruiting they are clueless. St Joes hardly has money for basic needs, let alone recruiting trips for girls basketball. WTF?!?!?
