It would seem that there was a lack of effort on the schools part to help send the students on thier yearly trip. However, they did want to be involved in where the students would be going when parents took it upon themselves to make the event happen. Something has once again gone wrong, and the children will not be having thier trip after all. Oddly enough, plans are already being made for next years 8th grade class.

the whole doesn't give any effort, the teachers and principal they dont with parents or among themselves to better the school in any way.they tell you what you want to here while your there with them and forget it by the time your butt hits the door to leave.poor system for the kids to learn from also, because they expect the parents to do that themselves.

Good news. Someone has decided to take the kids to Kings Island for a day, so at least they will get something. I still think the school should be ashamed and if that's all they can do for this years class, they need to stop planning the traditional trips for everyone else.

Do your job as a parent and take your own kids on a trip, they would appreciate it more than some crappy school trip

I happen to take my kids on several trips through out the year. My point is that they have had a trip for the children every year, and were making plans for next year as well, but could not take the time for this years class. The same teachers who would not go this year, have gone on previous years, and were planning on going next year. I have to admit that our own trips are better than the school can provide, however, the children look forward to it and had no reason to believe that they weren't getting a trip this year. I, as a parent, do not get a thrill out of a school trip. Please do your job as a decent human being, and try to support our students.

In addition to Out Of Control 1's excellent explanation, students enjoy going on trips with all their classmates. It's called making memories, MMann. Also not all parents can afford to take their children on a trip.

Society needs to realize that life isn't fair, period. The quicker we start teaching our kids that there are winners and losers in life, the quicker this country will stop being a bunch of politically correct, easily offended, pansies.

I'm sure your wife reminds who the loser is fairly often.

I'm with The prior replies, especially the man from Charleston.

What contest did they lose? Sounds like Mr. Bitter has decided to Twitter here, and project onto kids. Funny how the school keeps getting the same checks every year, while admitting not doing the work.

My child goes to Beverly Hills and was really disapointed when she found out they weren't getting to go. I fealt bad for all the kids. It is about memories and some of these kids won't see each other again. Some will go to different schools or move, etc. You should have seen her when she came in and told me they were going to Kings Island. She and several of her friends are making plans for that day and they couldn't be happier. Even though they don't get the trip they expected, such a small thing made them so happy. I think that is what it's all about and that's all anybody wanted. For the school to just do SOMETHING.

Hms had there trip at a cost of $400. Per student at the parents expense. I read on the cabell co board site that they had approve the funds for Milton 8th grade to go on their trip to DC. So would your 8th grade students have had to pay for there trip or would they had it paid for by other means? Just curious

By the way, teachers are planning a trip for this year's 8th grade students. They will be going to Colonial Williamsburg, Va Beach, aquarium, etc.

Beverly Hills is planning a trip this year for the 8th grade students to Virginia Beach for 6 days for 600.00. Too bad for the students that their parents can't afford this. You would think they would be hosting fund raisers to help pay for this trip, then asking parents for the remaining if any money due. They were nice enough to offer a payment plan of 100.00 per month until paid in full. What a joke! Yes my child will be going because I like everyone else don't want her to be left out but I just think the cost is a little much.

when i went to Beverly Hills, there was NO SUCH THING as a yearly 8th grade class trip. if you ask me i think these kids should be grateful that with the given recession, there were even plans of a trip.

Dont get me wrong on this either. i hated that school from start to end and every teacher that "taught" there; with the given few that stood out because they were actually there to make an impact on a childs life. and few there were. all in all that school is completely bass-ackwards in everything they do, and always has been.

YEAH ! WHAT A JOKE !!! I DON'T have an extra $100.00 of month for my 8th grader to go AND I don't want my child left out either ! So PLEASSSEEEE make a suggestion to me on how I can penny pinch for my student not to be left out !!!!
Personally, King's Island would be alot better and ALOT more afforable to others.

Washington? Williamsburg? You mean trips with an opportunity to impart education? What rotten choices for a school trip.

Some folks won't be able to afford King's Island and then what? I say make it Camden Park. Heck, I bet we can raise enough money here to pay for the busses.
