I never have and never will understand why anyone that isn't doing drugs cares if they have to take a random drug test so many times per year. I will also never understand why any company wouldn't actually give the drug tests as often as allowed. People on drugs (especially ones working with heavy, dangerous equipment, or have other people's welfare and care in their hands, such as people that working in nursing homes and with special needs people) are dangerous for everyone around them, they are a liability to the company, and you are just asking for accidents and injuries to happen.
And, the only people that should want to protest against random and frequent drug screens have to be using drugs themselves or there is no reason to have a problem taking one. And don't throw out that "it invades my personal privacy"! If you aren't doing drugs then use the fact you passed as a form of pride and proof you are a law-abiding citizen that isn't purposely and knowingly putting others' well-being at risk. If you are on drugs then your "privacy" should be invaded to ensure the safety of your co-workers.
I work at a place that has random drug tests very often and it doesn't bother me a bit. I know I am clean and more than happy to prove it to anyone and anytime.
+++ I agree. I work for a steel plant in the Northern Panhandle. Average Union + Staff salary =$ 55,000 per year.+ bonuses amongst 63 employees
We have never had a drug problem but have the random policy in place for both the Staff and Union.
The hiring process is the most critical in the industry and that is the key.
I can say that lower WV is, overall, a depressed area and does this Company offer training to motivate the employees ? Gainsharing ? Positive quality incentives ?
I feel for the clean employees working there. I would like to invite them to our company when our annex plant opens.
been there done that

The hiring process here is, if you can pass the drug test, you get a job!
Training? HAHAHA! You get trained on how to meet the numbers that your boss requires! And if you want to meet those numbers, you do a half-ass job!
Gainsharing? Yeah, some kind of formula that they have came up with that is based on figures that the production people have no control over! Plus management allowing material to be shipped that might meet customer specifications if they aren't real observant! And then told that we didn't meet the bonus criteria due to product not meeting customer requirements!
Positive quality incentives? See above!
Does your company lay-off people today and force someone to work their job on overtime the next day? For 12 days in a row? 16 hours a day? Happens here all the time!
Are there drugs being abused? Yes, just like anywhere else.
But that isn't the cause of all the problems at Special Metals!

LOL, the Doss brothers would love that, but instead of a cheese grader, maybe a big fat black rubber penis. I know they would take it in the mouth as much as they are under the desk.

And better quality, less scrap, less down time, fewer lost time accidents!
Glad we have finally got a good management team in place!
