I am shocked at the Huntington businesses and business people who owe past due refuse fees. Business should be setting an example and taking the lead. Here is another one...local real estate business people Parker and Amy Ward were in the Herald Dispatch for owing past due refuse fees. I haven't finished reading the list, so I bet there are more business people who are not paying.

1230 17TH ST
WARD JR PARKER L
$3,173.38

239 11TH AVE
WARD PARKER L JR & AMY B
$1,925.19$

The economy is rough right now And money is hard to come by. Just because someone owns a business doesn't mean the money comes flowing in along with it.

It could be foreclosed or default property they bought and are trying to sell.

That is not true. I bought a house in Huntington and the owners had not paid the refuse fees. The city did not have a lean on the property and at closing the fee was not deducted. So think again. There are alot of reasons why names are posted.

There are plenty of landlords that own multitudes of properties who refuse to pay these fees year after year. I wish the city was allowed to go to these people's renters and say, "For the next six months your rent check will be sent to the City of Huntington." See how the landlords like it then.

In some of Florida they combine refuse and water on the same bill. Don't pay then no water

when did you buy? It is a requirement from the city that the fees be paid when property transfers? What is the date of purchase for Parkers properties? That will tell the tale.

The last time 239 11th Avenue was recorded at the courthouse as a property transer was:

Apr 16 2002 4:17PM

So, are you telling me that this was a foreclosed property they bought and it has taken them almost 10 years to get the problem of past due refuse fees paid? I think not.

I will be selling my house in the next few months and will be sure not to use them. I met Ms. Ward once and she seemed nice enough, but if they are reason for Huntington's financial problems, they can kiss my business goodbye. Wait...how about this....they have to sign an agreement that says any commission I pay them goes directly to their fee payment. I wonder if they would???

According to the Huntington Realtors Board website, Amy Ward is the secretary/treasurer.

I'm shocked the paper doesn't "accidentally" forget to publish their names. Parker is one of huntington's children who can do no wrong. His dad was on the Marshall plane and he just hasn't had to put in as much effort as some of us have.

And his step-father is Tom Bell. How tough do you think the City is going to get on him?

Doesn't surprise me, Parker Ward never returned my calls when I wanted to buy a house in the area a few years ago.

Does anyone think they will pay up or just continue to thumb their nose at the rest of us?

Nope, they will just continue to abuse the city. It's probably interest and penalty free, so it's better debt than other types of debt.

Others on the list:
attorneys Treva Oxley and Jason Stemple,
Lester Raines (I'm assuming the auto guy?)
attorney Brian Conaty,
financial dude George Snider III,
plenty of St. Mary's Med Center employees I recognized as well.

Embarrassing.
