I started methadone about three months ago. On about four different occasions my feet, ankles, and legs have swollen severely. Every couple weeks I have to work a 15 hour shift where I'm on my feet, on concrete, the entire shift. Is anyone else having this problem with methadone? If so, what did Dr. Tell you to for? Thanks in advance!

methadone can make you retain water. you may want to talk to your doctor to see if you need to take a water pill. its also important to take calcium and vitamin d on methadone, something about methadone depletes calcium and vitamin d from your system. I have experienced a strange numb feeling in my upper leg. it is sometimes somewhat painful to the touch, but I have been able to take care of it with vitamins. I hope that you haven't experienced the severe constipation that can go with methadone maintenance. if you have stool softeners are a must as well as a high fiber diet

I just don't understand why I retain fluids so bad and others donnot. And I know all about the constipation, , I actually bought the vitadone to help with that. I just can't stand all this fluid. It makes my body sore to the touch.

Perhaps you should find a backbone instead of trading one addiction for another. Then you won't need to worry about it.

And asking for medical advice on Topix? Really?

why do you get on here and talk down to every person that is on here? Does it make you feel good about yourself? Until you have walked in my shoes, you have no idea what my life is like. You're sure not going to make me feel bad for getting my life together. And maybe I would ask Dr. But its too expensive to go. So I'm waiting to get into a Dr. That takes people with no insurance. The methadone clinic isn't bad. They have you do counseling and groups to retrain your mind. But I'm not going to spend my day defending myself!!! Have a good day :)

Has it not occurred to you that maybe I have walked in your shoes or that I am well acquainted with the clinic and that is why I am so against it? Maybe I'm a former employee? A current employee? A family member? You just assume that because I disagree with your views on it, I'm a heartless jerk who has never seen an addict. I live in Huntington. I know addicts. I also know 15 min with a "counselor" that is so overworked and underpaid that they are more miserable than the people they treat is a joke. Anyone who is both well versed in addiction treatment and reputable in their field will tell you methadone treatment is not to go on for years, nor is the counseling accompanying it supposed to consist of "How are you doing?" "Fine." "Do you want to come down on your dose?" "No, I actually want to go up." "Ok, we can do that."

I do not have it out for drug addicts. I KNOW addiction is painful, both to the addicts and to the people that care for them. I'd be lying if I said I had any sympathy, though. In my own experience, addicts do not care about anyone but themselves. Sadly, HTC knows this as well and they bank on it. That place is ALL about their money. From the low pay and understaffing to the low quality of their methadone, they cut corners wherever they can to maximize their profits.

You want to get off drugs the right way? Save the $400-$600 you are spending there a month and go to a medical doctor who will actually give a shit that you want to be clean and take the proper steps to get there. It may actually be cheaper after your initial visit. If you stay with HTC, you will be on drugs (and methadone IS a drug) until you run out of money, at which point they will shut the door in your face and say, "Sorry! Can't help ya!"

What qualifications does one need in order to be a counselor at a methadone clinic? A high school diploma and clean piss?

Add in a willingness to get there at the ass crack of dawn, not give a shit about the people you are supposedly helping, get treated like crap at work and do all of this for just barely above minimum wage and you're not too far off.

Yes, I DO know what I am talking about. Sorry it doesn't comfortably fit in with how you view the clinic. Hope you don't run out of money!!

They do not sound lonely and broken... just honest. If you are ever going to "recover" face what addiction has made you: lying, thieving, manipulative. Stop the EXCUSES and pity "parties".
