Is it legal to metal detect Ritter Park? Its a hobby of mine and would like to find some new areas to swing.

I've seen people do it before. I doubt it's illegal.

There isn't a sign so go for it. If Huntington don't want people to metal detect there they need to put a sign up.

metal detection is a strange waste of time. you should invest your time in a more worthwhile discipline. it's never too late.

The poster inquired about the legality of performing his hobby in a city park. Your opinion of metal detection was never solicited.

I don't think it's the "drugie scumbags" that use metal detectors. More of a hobby for retired old men. But it's good to know that you keep such a close eye on YOUR park. I'm sure the cops will drop everything they're doing to crack down on this hardened criminal before he finds a 1923 wheat penny by a park bench...

I've seen a few folks with metal detectors in the park. They are nice people who just happen to have a fun and harmless hobby. They are even quite nice to talk to. I don't know if their hobby is "illegal" in the park or not. The police don't seem to care as I have seen them drive by and wave at the hobby folks. Just remember not to dig big holes. There is much more of a problem with dog owners who think it's OK to let their dogs off the leash to play and bother everyone. Some are even large aggressive breeds that will attack other dogs which are on leashes and under the control of their owners. I've never been attacked by anyone with a metal detector but me and my small dog have been hassled by irresponsible dog owners and their dogs.

I got a kick out of the "wheat penny" remark. lol. I can see the cops surrounding the guy, guns drawn, right by the rose garden...hee hee

"Alright, we've got you surrounded! DROP THE WHEAT PENNY OLD MAN!! That's right...nice and slow..." HA!

Lord yes, let them have their hobby. But they would have to dig holes if they find anything. Just fill them back up like a responsible person.

Funny, you have time to slam someone for being outside and getting an ever so slight amount of exercise while enjoying a harmless hobby but do so while sitting and typing from a keyboard. Who seems more disciplined when the two are compared? Hmmmm.....

Generally you cannot metal detect on State and National Historic sites, or any cemeteries.

I bet you ain't even red the consteetuition. If yall spent your time with the lord instead of digging up our parks for drug money then you would know that he ain't even from here. He was born in Hawai & is one of them orientals. Listen to Jesus instead of Alla and the cornran. If you wert media whipped you would know that Mayor Kim Wolfe has the lord in his side and he once ate lunch with George Bush who never had nothing in his life but hardworking and Jesus Christ. God bles you socialisters
Ha. Are you serious? First of all I think you commented on the wrong topic since nobody was even talking about any of that. Secondly Hawaii is one of the 50 states so he is an American citizen. Like it or not. And as for George Bush....I hope u are talking about the dad. Omg

Obviously you are one of the sexual deviants who would "metal detect" in my public park. Everyone knows you drug addicts are looking for copper to steal and if I catch you it will be your ass boy.
