During that storm I lost a deep freezer full of food, as well as my fridge and freezer full. I work and support myself. I do not get food stamps. I struggle to keep food on the table for my family as it is. We lost everything put up from the garden. Is there any help besides a food bank for people that actually work? Just wondering. Thanks.

That is why people have generators.

I've seen several working people on here asking about help, but they are very quick to dismiss the suggestion of the local food bank. Why? It's food and isn't that what you want? I'm curious and seriously want to hear what those working families have to say.

I never said anything about turning it in to insurance. I want to know why these families object to getting help from the food bank. It is amusing that you would call someone a dummy while posting that poorly constructed response.

I have had to use a food bank before, but I think of that as a last resort. I feel like because I work, I am taking away from the people that really need it. The people that work there treat you that way as well! I've been turned away because I work before.:(

Tell me this, WHY should a family who is working have to subject themselves to a food pantry when lazy people on the system get more food stamps to just go buy what they lost.....no one is asking them to go to a food pantry and degrade themselves to beg for food. There is something wrong with the system when those who refuse to work are granted another round of assistance, and those who are PAYING for that assistance are blown off to go beg at a church, now that is sad.

Thank you for actually giving me am answer. I suppose I can understand feeling degraded. It wouldn't stop me if my family was hungry, but I do understand. What are some suggestions about what can be done in the event this scenario should repeat itself? Who would you contact to get the ball rolling for this type of program? What type of compensation would you ask for?
