Huntington is what you want it to be. I love love walking my dogs, talking to neighbors, enjoysing the park. There are bad plases and good. You have to deside which one you want. Dont even listen to the crybabies who say its bad. Go out and see yourself and have a good time.

Oh yes , Huntington is great if you live in certain neighborhoods. If you do not however, it has become a cesspool. Walking my dogs , I have to pass drug infested homes and pathways of whores. I live in the city and my daughters don't want to walk to school bus stop, let alone down to MU, they get approached as if they are one of the many hookers---these pigs wish there were clean, attractive hookers-as if.

I wouldn't rely on Topix for a straight answer. Go to city-data.com for people who would actually like to help answer your question.

Oh yes , city data websites paint a realistic picture. Places to go-- ha. Which are safe? Crime statistics ? Doesn't tell you all the things swept under the mayors and HPD rug.

Steer clear from Hal Greer if you plan on moving to Huntington. That is all.

If you are to believe the people on here, Hal Greer is one of the most dangerous roads in America.

The projects and surrounding streets have always been a blight on Huntington. For 30 years plus hal greer has been a thug and drug area just like the white equivalent Guyandotte. Nothing new. I remember being a teenager and my parents would tell me to stay away from 16th street when I rose my bike.

we lives on 11 th ave and 10 street. I remember that neighborhood was nice and well kept before they started renting those big houses to scrubs.

i remember when blacks was not allowed to live in our neighborhoods. All of Huntington's trash was Hal greer and guyandotte. Now the cancer has spread.

Boring. Nothing to do here. LOTS of crime. Lots of arson and armed robberies, prostitutes, and hobos everywhere.

I think there's plenty to do. Marshall sporting events, Chilifest, Music & Arts Festival, Greek Fest, Mardi Gras Casino, Beech Fork, Carter Caves, performances at the Keith Albee, events at Big Sandy, Summer Concert Series, Party on the Patio, Old Central City, Ritter Park.

You want to live on the south side of the railroad tracks which run through the city. 10th Street to 9th Street West, is more of a safe area to live which runs next the park. Avoid the Hal Greer area which is around the 16th Street / 8th Avenue area.
The closer you are to Ritter Park the better neighborhood you will have.
As for things to do, I personally get bored and I am an activity member of the community.
Obviously, as with any town, you have the usual events and festivals throughout the year.(Rib fest, Chili fest) Pullman plaza has a concert series all summer long, then of course fall/winter you have football season. The park is nice if you enjoy being outdoors or have a dog. A handful of newer upscale dinning places are along 3rd avenue. It's not dinning comparable to a large city, but its reasonable. Bars,
Bars and more bars.... every corner is a bar. Keep in mind this is a college town, so it's offerings match the demographic. Personally, I wouldn't move here.
