This place is a JOKE! They claim to help the homeless but all they do is talk down to them and treat them like dirt! I know someone who stayed there for a month and were depressed all the time.

How can a place like this help the homeless if they charge them $200 a month to live there. No one can get back on their feet if they work a min wage job and have a family to support? Plus isn't it illegal to pop a surprise drug test without a registered nurse present or not send them to a lab that is properly equipped to do that? Plus I was told that they portions on their food is way too tiny for anyone to feel full! Let me know what you folks think!

I think people should just be thankful for what they have. At least Huntington has a place for the homeless to go. Where else could you live for $200 a month with all bills paid and at least they are getting food. I'm not saying it's the best place in the world, but it's better than nowhere.

Who the hell stays in a homeless and isn't depressed? I mean come on I'd feel pretty down if I had to stay there too.

Why is it the shelters place to support someone or a family, that chooses not to work? Their choices for not working can be many, but is their truly a valid reason for not working? I personally think not. The mission also needs to charge these folks, because if not they would never learn to help themselves. As for not feeding these folks very big portions, whats their complaints, if they want better then they need to buckle down and do better themselves. I have driven past where this Mission is and you see these homeless folks around town, and I have yet to see one look like the ethiopians with ribbs sticking out, as the ones you see on TV. Also, if you don't like the potion sizes served at the mission, maybe you could take them into your home and feed them better. See how well that $200 per month pays all the utilities, their rent and their grocery bills, then come back here and tell us the results of your experiment.

I agree!!! Just my electric bill & phone eats up that much a month without including groceries. My homes paid for also, or that would even cost alot more.

Something else that this person forgot to mention is that The City Mission will also give you toiletries and proper clothes for you to go on a job interview but many people staying there do not want to take advantage of that. I do feel bad that some people have ran out of options but they can get back on their feet at 200 a month. They would pay alot more than 200 in a apartment and if they were providing themselves with everything they needed.

Another thing that I know Homeless Shelter beside what others has already mentioned, is the folks laundry, including supplying the laundry deteregent which is not cheap now days.

Well I happen to know that a lot of the people there are not there to better themselves, they are there to get a handout and be a burden on society.

Wow, I guess that is factual. I think people are looking for more detailed factual information to back up your statement.

I am a firm believer that everyone should work and support their family. The city mission should be used for a short term to get back on your feet. I know that everyone can hit rock bottom, but if you try hard enough you can turn your life around. 12 years ago I was homeless and on drugs, but for a very short amount of time, not even 6 months. Then I realized that my children deserved a better life than what I was providing with my addiction. I went to drug rehab, went back to school, while working 2 jobs. I have had a wonderful career that I love and supports my children and now my grandchild. We go on vacations and have a very good life. All you have to do is want it bad enough.

Sounds all good. However we have looked everywhere for a job but cant find anything.I have an interview wed. but my husband is not allowed to be there to watch the kids i was told to tell my husband he has to walk the streets with them in the freezing rain until i get home at whatever time that i get done. We have respected all staff, obeyed all rules, and we are really trying to do the right thing...

I agree with you but the economy is worse now than it was. It might take longer due to fewer jobs.
