Exactly. I just asked for help and I see no efforts. That's OK. There are people who do help instead of just claiming to others that they want too.

I used to go into a bar close to the city mission. A fellow came into the bar that I saw earlier standing on the street corner begging. He set the whole bar, which was full of people, with drinks. He laughed and said he averages $75 hour cash on that corner. He rotated that corner with 3 other buddies. He stayed and ate at the mission.

Contact the Huntington City Mission. I'm sure they could tell you how you can help.

Go to the river front park, boat ramp side Saturday mornings I think 9 to 11. There's a group that cooks and serves breakfast for the homeless. Then then Saturday afternoon another group does lunch. Both groups are good, go help out and donate money or food to them. I'd say nearly all the money they get goes directly to the homeless unlike professional charities that only give 50 or 60 percent... Hope that helps

They have to want to help themselves first. Go feed the rats, help them get cash so they can get their drink on and then use the bathroom on the streets of Huntington.

The homeless situation is really bad here in Huntington. If you go to Harris Riverfront Park you will see quite a few there. They also tend to congregate around the Red Lobster (trying to get money from people as they go in to eat.) Do be careful though and don't go alone. Many of them just want handouts and money for their next drink. About a year ago, one came up to my mom outside of her place of employment, telling her he was laid off and needed money to get buy until he got his first unemployment check. Several weeks later, at a different location, he came up to her again with the same line. She called him on it and told him she knew EXACTLY who he was and that he had hit her up for money before. I jumped all over my mom for doing that! He could have had a gun, knife, anything on him! It's sad, but you just don't know what people are capable of anymore. So, although your desire to help IS admirable, stay safe and be careful. They have to want to help themselves first. There are MANY, MANY places they can go for assistance.

Yep my church is a part of that, it's a great opportunity to go on Saturday mornings. People there will be more than glad for you to help the homeless.:)

I would love to find one homeless person who truly needed a place to call home, and share my place with them, and help them get back on there feet.

Does anyone know of any places that I could communicate with any of the homeless online or any places they post asking for help?

Also, I am hoping that person is in WV somewhere, because it would be alot harder to get to someone who is out of state. Will consider each circumstance, no matter where your from.

Are you serious? You would bring some total stranger into your home? I unfortunately work around alot of the homeless and they are choosing to be homeless! All they have to do is give up the drugs and ETOH, then they could stay at the City Mission. There they would have a place to stay, food to eat, clothes and help finding a job. If they wanted to work they could find a job. All they want are handouts for there next fix! If you really want to help someone, find someone who is supporting their family on a minimum wage job! At least they are working and trying to help themselves!

I totally agree that most are as you said in your prior post. I am hoping to find that needle in the haystack. Would love to help a family, but I do not have room for a whole family. I have one available room and thats why I am trying to help one single person.

Just please be careful. People can be so deceiving and so dangerous. When you let someone in to your home you are letting them get alot of personal information. They can have access to your mail, they know your routine and where alot of your valuables may be. I really like helping people too, but I only help those who are trying to make it by working. I would never let anyone in to my home. I guess I see a lot of bad in people with the job that I have. So if you still feel like letting someone into your home is what you need to do by all means, just be careful!

John Hampton with Prestera Center helps the homeless . That is his job at P.C. One has to be absolutely"homeless" before he can help them. It is not a quick process. If you want to offer help, contact John.

Harmony House, City Mission, Around Vanity Fair (4th Avenue and 6th st). The homeless are not hard to find in Huntington.

Good Luck.
