What's the point in going to college anymore? Went in LPN program and I barely make $13 hour now and have to pay back my loan on top of that. Anybody else feel like this?

Why did you go to college?

For many, going to college had a major impact on their standards of living. The common denominator, in my opinion, of those who benefited was that college reinforced and supported a passion. If things aren't working out, take an inventory of your life, your goals, etc. If you can't get a job that pays enough, face up to the fact that (i) you don't have skills that differentiate you from others in the job market,(ii) you're in the wrong place and may need to move or (iii) both.

Depending where you work.. I worked in a doctors office making $13 and went to Mildred Mitchell making $16. It depending on the type of work you do as well. What type of nurse will get paid more ..one working 9-5, calling patients back, taking vitals, blood, assisting the doctor.. or one working in a hospital, doing one on one patient care.. the work load is different and Much harder. Therefore so is the pay.. you get paid for what you do. I worked with an lpn wound nurse who made $17 an hour..and the make that at cabell too

Still, on average, college grads make more than non- grads.
A third of our labor force earns less than $10 an hour, which of course is not enough to live on unless you are living with someone else ( sharing expenses) and both of you work 12-16 hour shifts per day. Either the minimum wage has to reflect the actual cost of living or the federal reserve has to be abolished to restore the value of the USD. Until then, most are screwed.

I guess you're under the impression that college education makes you smart. I'm all for college degree in the right field but don't just go to college and expect a great job waiting for you when you're done. I work with alot of college grads that don't use their degree but have to pay back those loans. Research it first before you go. Jobs in this area suck and you may have to relocate. I went for 4 years and decided to switch to voc college. It's really the smart way to go if you're going to stay in this area. Learn a trade. If I was you I would go back to get your RN. They make good money and you can take it anywhere if you move.

Actually you can take it through Ashland community college and get an associates.. look it up takes 18 months.. you take the NCLeX pn just like an RN. Only difference is RN is more management, they hang blood, and push pain media..lpns can pass meds, give injections, start Ivs,catheters, tracheotomys, ng tube insertion, wound care, etc.. they usually hire lpns and work them where an RN is needed and just pay them less.. because they can do just as much as an RN. Look at OUs bridge over program you just have to go 3 semesters before your an RN. Not much difference between a practical nurse and registered nurse ..just the pay and they can do certain things they r trained at

OMG, another one with two Master's degrees that made at least eight mistakes in four sentences. Pardon my slaver, guys, but this is the sort of thing that gets me all excited.

In what, pray tell, did you obtain two Master's? From what school, if I may be so impudent? Is English your second language?

I smell buuullllssshhhh*******t! There is nothing funnier to me, I can't help myself.
