So I got a call from my son's school in Babroursville today saying that I need to meet with them now because he brought a vibrator to school and was showing the other kids at recess. I got there about an hour later and was brought into the office, in which there was his teacher, the principal, an off duty police officer, and they even had the superintendant on speaker phone. They did their best to make me feel bad for letting this happen, but just I told them the truth when they asked...I told them that my wife forgot to put away last night after she cleaned it and set it out to dry and he must have found it this morning before school. They weren't very amused but I found it pretty funny, that is until they informed me that they were filing charges on me for child neglect and contributing to the indecency of a minor. I can't begin to say how rediculous they were about this, and how furious this has made me. Am I the only one that thinks it's totally absurd to affect our family so dramatically for such an insignificant mistake?

They have ZERO grounds for anything. Ask for or present the school handbook and ask where it says vibrators are not allowed on school property and if they are then that results in charges filed etc.

Then call your lawyer or call your lawyer before and find out your rights. Pretty simple. If you feel you are being harassed or unfairly treated you have the right to seek legal help. Utilizing the system isn't wrong though people try to act like it is.

If it is true are they not checking to see what kids bring to school before recess? They have failed to keep your kid safe they endangered other students to this or what could be worse if he had picked up a gun or other item.

Not sure I believe you but if true look at these things that that principle is responsible for with his job.

But was it a big vibrator or one of those little puny things? If it was big enough, I suppose it could be classified as a weapon. Or, at least, I'd like it used as one on me.

That is crap! I agree with the hand book statement! Mistakes happen and children in, elementary school especially, may not even know what it was, and if he did, how much cooler could you be to your friends if ya have something so taboo.... But to charge parents is so over Kelter and ridiculous!
