I am so sorry for his wife and her family, she just seems lost without him, and I know that feeling well, but just seems so sad that Darren dad is all alone except for Darren wife family, I hope he is with them, and not alone. I plan to keep on looking for him as soon as it warms up some, but I think it is time to start searching somewhere else besides the river, I don't believe he is in the river, do you know what part of town he lived in, or which way his car was headed when they found it? He may not know who he is and is out wondering from place to place, I have read where people on drugs will steal a car and make a drug run and then just leave the car, I am beginning to wonder if somebody knocked him in the head and took him somewhere and then took his car. I just wish we could get a lead, on where else to search. What do you think, any ideas?

Where on facebook, and please give a little more information. That is what hurts the searchers, we are never given enough information.

Haven't seen anything official on this, that is one of the biggest problems in trying to locate missing people, no information get's posted until all leads goes cold, then searchers are pulling their hair out trying to find leads or where to look. Afraid to post anything because it hasn't been officially posted. I have never seen so many missing people so close together,

To Charlena, I keep checking all the topix that I have posted on and nothing so far. I have noticed that there isn't one thing about Darren family except his dad, I find this kind of strange, no mention of mother, siblings no one except his dad. Does this seem strange to you?
The whole case is strange. December 12th Darren and his wife went to bed in their home around 9 pm. The wife wakes up around 1:30 am to find her husband Darren Mathis and his car gone but his phone and wallet were still at the house and he is still in his PJs. Around 2:15 am dispatchers received a call about a suspicious or abandoned car on the 31st bridge which turned out to be that of James Darren Mathis. Around 2:30 am police showed up at the house saying they had found Darren’s car on the 31st Street Bridge in East Huntington, but no sign of Darren. He has been missing since Dec 13th around 1:30 am or possibly sometime Dec 12th after 9 pm when him and his wife went to sleep in their home. Huntington Police and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a river search near the bridge, but they didn't find anything. He has been missing for 45 days today, almost two months, exactly 6 weeks and 1 day. The first article of Darren missing on wsaz dated December 13th the day he went missing and the last update was on December 21st. It has been over a month since the last update on wsaz.

So the facts are he went missing sometime in the night wearing PJs, no phone, no wallet assuming no money since he was in his PJs with no wallet. 45 mins after the wife awake's to find her husband and the car are gone dispatch gets a call about this abandoned car on the 31st bridge which again I say was in fact belonged to Darren Mathis. The wife said she didn't think Darren was capable of committing suicide without leaving a note and that they had a happy marriage and Huntington Police and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a river search near the bridge, but they didn't find anything. There is close to a 5 hour open window.

To: Charlena, I did a little research on Darren and discovered he was an only child, according to his mother obit. Seems like he may have had some relatives but not many. I sure wish we could get a better lead. I think him and his wife had been married about 11years, so he would have been about 27 when they got married, he went to collage don't know how many years, but don't seem to be a past before that. no kind of record of him even as a kid, so I don't think he just left, or went into that river, pictures of him and his wife are absolutely beautiful, appears to be perfect couple, so maybe friends at his work could share some ideas if they would, don't believe I seen one thing about co-workers ,have you?? I was thinking he is probably not far from home, bitter cold winter time, everything frozen, maybe we will be able to line up places to search on land soon.

I thought this case had some similarities. James Alan Lawson and they have yet to find this man's murderer.

Sassy, everyone said the same thing about the guy found on the 17th Street West bridge. No offense, but you can hardly judge what is in a persons mind or heart from pictures. Maybe he wasn't happy. Maybe he had issues that no one knew he was struggling with. Maybe there is no silver lining in this situation. These things happen every day. Even in this area. People truly have no idea what goes on around here unless its plastered on the news.

This man has been missing for well over 6 weeks. No motive for kidnapping or homicide. Obviously there are issues that no one is aware of but him. Let's be realistic.

To:Mnmx5, This is true, the first thing that I do when starting a search is check for everything in a persons past, present, and future, with that being said, there is nothing in Darren past or present that would suggest that anything is wrong, true we don't know what anyone is thinking, usually when someone disappears there are some signs of something going on. As for the other guy, a lot more of something else was going on. It was just never made public. Don't you agree?

Absolutely, I agree the other case had issues. Maybe this one does too. Hard to say though for sure. I have heard rumors that the family has asked about life insurance. I have no idea if that is true. I am sure it would be natural to ask questions like that too in that situation. I'm sure there are financial obligations that have to be met, like we all have. Just a shame that they have no closure to move on one way or the other.

It is quite odd the only people I know of are his wife and sister in law. No co workers or friends that I know of at least haven't seen anything anywhere online. I tried asking the sister in law what area he lived in not where the home is actually located but just an area so that I would create a route on a map from the "area" he was last seen to the 31st street bridge to pin point areas of interest like wood areas, etc. and was told it was none of my business and when i asked for more details they said the details that are already out there are the only ones that are needed to know and that they were the same details they had. I personally think there are no details at all that are helpful except his clothes and the timeline. I honestly think too that he is not to far from home and most likely is deceased sadly. This is just a feeling I am getting but I could be wrong. I would like for him to pop up alive and well with a bump on the head but like it has been said it has been 6 weeks.
