A jury has found Brian Rooney, the man accused of beating, raping and killing former University of Vermont student Michelle Gardner-Quinn, guilty.

The decision came down just before 6 p.m. Thursday after more than six hours of deliberations. Rooney faces life in prison for the crime.

Rooney was charged with aggravated murder in the death of Gardner-Quinn, a 21-year-old UVM transfer who vanished on Oct. 7, 2006 and was found dead six days later. Her body had been stuffed in a rock crevice at Huntington Gorge less than 6 miles from Rooney's home.

DNA samples found on Gardner-Quinn's body proved to be the deciding factor in the case.
