There is a large Christmas tree planted at Centennial Park (close to the front), by Gene Clark. It had gotten so overgrown and there was actually another tree overgrown inside of it! Dwight & Kathleen Walker cut out the tree inside, pruned the Christmas tree, and it has some shape again! Maybe we can get our tree lighting ceremony started back up again. All it takes is a few helpful volunteers! Something to start thinking about...

Maybe the Economic Development Board could show some Community involvement and take that project in hand.

Or I think there is a committee for Centennial Park? Any group could take charge.

I really think there are all ready too many playing the Chiefs, this town needs more Indians actually getting involved and doing something. I think it would be a positive reflection on the EDB group for a change. You know walk the talk. And besides you already said Dwight and Kathleen Walker cleaned it up and she represents the Park Board so maybe they already did their part in the Christmas tree, don't you think? Maybe it's your turn? Maybe this could be your Christmas lights project this year.

You might have a slight obsession with the EDB I'm afraid. This was not a thread for that, there are plenty if you'd like to discuss it there. The EDB members volunteer for so much during the year. Including being in charge of the Light Contest, many judge & organize the parade, etc. Step up for your community yourself, & stop passing things to everyone else. I would be happy to be involved in getting the tree decorated, regardless of who heads the project.

Anyone else have any ideas for something festive for our tree?

If you can read your own statements it was you passing the buck as usual. But then again that's what you are good at doing. Amazing you take credit for the parade when it wasn't even discussed at the last meeting, just when does all that planning take place?

Sorry, I guess everyone knows the truth, so there's no point in me pointing it out. I shall let it rest.

In another thread, feel free to explain. I'm not going to explain things to you all over the internet. Asking for ideas is not passing the buck. Please go find a hobby elsewhere. Thanks.

Back to the topic at hand.... our Christmas Tree! If it stays pruned, by next year it should be really amazing! Doing something with it this year might be a 'practice run'. Maybe let one of the groups at the school start decorating it every year? Or let different groups do it yearly, for variety & involvement? So many ideas. It's not about who does it but about the reason behind it.

Is there electricity available for the tree? Or does it need to be an old fashioned Christmas? Maybe ribbons and decorations made to feed the birds is my suggestion since we have a learning curve as to what we can do with the tree. Anyone interested in having a tree trimming party? Maybe the Community as a whole, each family bring one ornament that means something to them to put on the tree during the week after Thanksgiving? I'm sure there are lots of ideas, how many can we get posted.

FYI: The Park Committee will be heading up the ideas for the Park Christmas Tree this year. So if anyone has suggestions, ideas, or is willing to volunteer contact Kathleen Walker or Joann Ricks.

I want to thank everyone for their comments on any thread that has been made since I joined Topix.

I can't say I think all the comments was nice or that I agreed with them. But it doesn't matter, nice or not, I appreciate them.

I especially appreciated all informative posts and the posts give appreciation to me.

Topix has been so good to me. All and All, most posts have been fairly clean. A little too much rumor has been posted especially where it concerns marital affairs. We are all human though.

Let continue to strive to make this a clean, informative forum with our posts.

The thread "Should City Manager Milstead Resign?" was started by "KeepeOfTheLaw" on May 3, 2012 and has over 600 postings before as of November 20, 2012. This thread has the most postings made to it in Huntington Forums. The question posed by this thread by its title has certainly hit a nerve. It by far has been the most interesting thread. This thread started with a simple question, " How does everyone feel about City Manager Bruce Milstead now?" Of interesting note, post #666 belongs to me. I guess that means I am the devil. LOL.

Great team too! They'll get it organized. I know there is power, of course, at the park. So if we want to actually light the tree, it's possible. I have a goldfish pond in my back yard, & we ran an extension cord under the ground so the pump has power. It wasn't difficult, you can't see it, & the tree will have power every year. Just an idea, that part wouldn't be my area of expertise. It'll be nice to see a tradition brought back though!
