This meeting is not only covering the 2013 Budget but also includes the tax rate for Huntington, along with discussing increasing our minimum rates. Everyone in the City needs to be there. How much is your utility bill right now, do you need another increase coming to your bills?

It was brought up at the last Council meeting that the City is not complying with their website and how they are keeping it updated. Betsy's response was they would take the website down instead of updating it. We shall see what happens, if they budgeted the website like they do their lunches it would be as nice as any around. It's a shame this day and time that the City doesn't have one employee who can keep the website up to date.

You are right, it is a shame that they don't have someone with enough know how to keep the website current. Once its brought up to date, keeping it maintained would be easy. I would think the council should be making the decision regarding keeping the site up. If they would answer questions honestly in the arbiter, and keep the citizens informed it would certainly be a benefit to them and the city

Someone had mentioned before that the computer people are the one's who did the City website. You might ask. I doubt anyone at the City does the actual updating on it.

From information I have seen, in 2010 the Economic Development Board voted to hire someone and pay for it. I personally have not noticed any updating for over two years, except they have removed the Council members.
I have asked more than once about the website, why it was not being maintained, etc. First answer as always is there is no money, then it was they had a contract with someone and he was not doing his job, at the last Council meeting, the answer was an employee was updating and he's no longer employed. The EDB voted to hire the same programmer that did the City of Lufkin's site, I'm not sure who did what or how much has been paid out for that website but regardless we did not get our money's worth on that deal. In the EDB 2010 Minutes there was no information given after the vote???? Maybe this deal was another one of those, brother, uncle, sister-in-law's half sister's contracts that never gets finished correctly or costs the City a chunk of money before it is finished. The website is just another example of what decisions are being made by City Hall in my opinion. Anyone going to the website gets a first hard example of the shape of our City, poor planning and no maintenance. Go to the website and look for yourselves, it says more than anything I can say about it, then look at the City of Alto or City of Diboll, or Lufkin's for comparison. Just saying, our website is pitiful in comparison.

Sounds like their lies are piling up on top of one and other. Right hand dont know what the left hand is doin. Should we expect any of them to be honest about anything? City council is just as guilty as the mgr and sec for allowing this to carry on.

Pleading ignorance doesn't change anything, I have heard several past and present Council members are doing just that, they didn't know such and such??? I can only imagine how much they take for granted and I have seen very few ask questions during the meeting. Are the Council still guilty and better yet, are the Citizens guilty by letting this behavior be accepted year after year?
I think we all share a blame in the position our town is in today. The Council for not representing the Citizens and us for not demanding more answers. Taking time to be at the meetings is one way to let the Council know the Citizens are wanting to be more involved with City Hall. The Council hears that the Citizens do not care or they are happy with how the City is being run. Are you happy with the decisions being made? Take time out and go to the Council Meetings, it's better to come in late than not at all. The meetings are the 4th Tuesday at 5PM.

There are two openings on the Economic Development Board. If you have an interest in how Huntington is be lead, this may be the time to step up and get involved.

I know reading the AG Handbook it sounds like they are supposed to state what article they are using to have their closed meeting. I have noticed they do not do this, they site all the articles as a possible reason for the closed session. There are only 4 reasons according to the Attorney General, check the Handbook and and see if you think they are following the rules.
I called this morning to City Hall, no meetings are posted this morning.

I know there are specific reasons for a closed session, and talking with Bruce about something he is planning is not a reason cited in most instances. They have been allowed to get very relaxed on following the law in my opinion. Just because it's easier not to have Citizens hear what is being discussed doesn't make it legal. It seems they prefer pulling the rabbit out of the hat and surprising us.

Don allow them to pull a rabbit out of the hat, ifthey do not post the subject matter to be discussed, tell themthey cannot hold the meeing, thatit is illigal. Anything that is discussed and taken action on is illigal. Open meeting law code says ignorance can be prosecuted and result in jail time and fine. This open meeting code is very strict, we need to be read up onit. You can go to the AG web site and read the regulations. The open records law is there also.
