FYI: Betsy Gregson called me to let me know using certified mail is totally unnecessary, you can save that money by getting a request form from the front desk and filling it out. She also mentioned the charges that might incur from the request. Anything over $40.00 in copy costs must be verified before they do the work.(This is from the AG recommendations page) On the request form they have, this is explained and you agree to the costs. I believe she said it is $15.00 an hour and so much per page. Anyway just so we know they are aware of Topix and what is being said.
they cannot charge you 15 per hour. You would have had accumulated 36 hours of requests in the fiscal year for the to charge you labor. You can only be charged 10 cents per standard page copy. You do not have to agree to the charges in advance. You need to send the request by email like I have suggested

they have been aware for a while inacar. I would not be surprised if they don't have someone "watching" Topix while on city time to keep them updated. I have to wonder, if Betsy Gregson called you, does that mean you are friends with her and in her little "circle" of friends? as for the charges, if it is only a couple pages, then 10 cents per page is the charge PERIOD.

Who knew.... you can't just request the records, you have to know what to do with them once you get them..... everyone shares your feelings about nothing changing, but then again, there is a very small handful that are even trying. Did you know that as a WHOLE... if EVERYONE would get together, that something CAN be done??? Look into it, you might be surprised at what can be done but so many people are too scared of Bruce and Betsy to do anything.

I understand what you are saying, but how many people are willing? The officers working there are scared of her because their jobs are on the line. It's just a sad situation that she runs that place.

You are SO RIGHT who knew.... I have HEARD of several instances when an officer SHOULD have arrested one of Betsy's family members, but didn't because of fear of losing their job. SAD SAD SAD!!!I only wish I had the proof, but alas, some people hid behind others, their job position or even their religious beliefs, and come out ahead. In MY Opinion, you never know when Karma will rear it's head the slap those that continue to do wrong in a way they least expect it.

I think in the past everyone acted alone or in a small group. That will not get anywhere from what I've seen. All of us must decide we need to demand more responsibility and transparency from the City Council. They have forgotten who they answer to in the makeup of City Government.
First are the Citizens, then the Council and last is the City Manager, somehow they haven't figured that out. But I will say if the Citizens do not hold their responsibility down, then it can't help but throw everything out of balance. So have we as Citizens done our part? I think you can see by the lack of citizens showing up for the meetings where a lot of the blame lies.

You have a good point inacar, now the question remains, how do you get EVERYONE on board??? what is it going to take to make the citizens join the bandwagon and take their city back?

Now here's the hard part because only 40% of Citizens are homeowners, the rest renters who for the most part have no loyalty for Huntington, most live here for lower rent or have kids in Huntington Schools. So you tell me what will motivate the few who should care to get involved? Many homeowners have sold out and moved instead of doing something about the way the City is run. The business owners keep their heads down and pretend they don't know, the few that do see the problems keep out of it because they don't want trouble from the City. They prefer being on the City's good side because they have stood by in the past and watched while others were mowed down. I guess everyone likes to vent but no one wants to do what it will take to bring about a change. What do you suggest? And to answer your question, I do know Betsy and she knows me from my going to the Council meetings. I am not part of her inner circle of friends if that was what you really wanted to know.

it's those 40% that need to take a stand then, including the business owners. if everyone would band together, then the city would see that the citizens are serious. For some reason, this city's government does not realize that the citizens PAY their salaries/wages, they are working FOR the citizens, not the other way around.
Yes, that was what I was asking regarding betsy. Thank you for your honest and frank answer.
No, Angelina resident, if you will read the WHOLE posting here, you will see that the Ex-Chief is not mentioned anywhere.

Now I have showed everyone how to send strong open records requests. They will respond and not try to evade the law. They will know you mean business.

That's just it, we hear it but the officers would never come foward, and she knows that. But they have to be telling someone for us to hear it! By the time it goes through everyone I'm sure there is more added to it, but I'm also sure there is some truth to it. I own my house here and it's sad when people ask where I live, I tell them and their first response is always is good luck with city hall there! Pretty sad!

It is more than sad, but the Officers involved have to step up and do the right thing. No one else can do it for them.

apparently, the officers are not doing much of their job at all. When a call was placed to the city to reach an officer around 10 pm last night - since no one knows or shares any other way - they were not available. One officer even told a citizen, call me if you need anything... Well open your eyes law enforcement of the city of huntington, YOU ARE LYING to the citizens. If you tell them to call if they need you, give them a way to contact you, keep all the other officers informed of any reports that might mean they need to keep their eyes/ears open, and by all means, follow up with these people, even if it is only to tell them you are still working on their case but as of yet have found nothing. I refuse to believe that you are sooooooo busy that you can't take the five minutes necessary to do that. You were sworn to "SERVE AND PROTECT".... not to avoid the people who need your help.

At the last Council Meeting it was said that all City calls must go through the Sheriff's Office. The City does not have a dispatcher. We only have two full time officers and two part time officers. The Police Chief tries to fill in as needed but most of the time we have one officer on duty. So if you do the physics thing, he can be only one place at a time. And as far as followup with someone over a past incident, I think that would be Police Chief Epperly's job not the officers. Just my opinion.

There is a chief, then the lieutenant , that female is full time as well, then you have mcenze I think thats his name is, Steve, billy jack and Jaime...they can't afford more officers because they keep buying more vehicles ! Spend their time in Newway and parked along the roads talking to people ……yes I sure feel safe!

They do have reserve officers I believe is what he called them but as far as having a position, they only have the 2 full time and 2 part time positions, everyone else is as needed I guess. This is what he said in his report at the last council meeting on the 24th. As we know lots happen between the meetings so all that is subject to change.
