Donations at food pantry slow as need rises

The four-foot-wide, six-and-a-half-foot-high shelves that line the food pantry of the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station are almost empty.

Now if the government stopped giving a free ride to illegals, we would be able to help those who deserve it.

I stopped donating because of all the Illegals being supported by these places . I'm very sorry but I can't be part of making these people comfortable here . This crazy Government will make them citizens and we'll be feeding them for generations .

Illegals are people too. Hungry means hungry. If our government did most things it should be doing we wouldnt be in a depression right now. Judge on your own time, not when people are hungry. Please let me know where I can donate. "Illegals" deserve food too. Get off your high horses.

Where is the a food pantry in the Huntington area? I don't care if 'illegals' get to eat the goods that we don't want. If they are hungry, and need food, let them eat. Is it better to have starving, desperate people in our community?

I think certain people in our society (legal citizens) should trying going a few days without food before opening their fat mouths about letting people starve. What a horrid thought, "you're not a legal citizen so you don't deserve to eat."

I am so sad and disgusted to read how selfish and horrid some people are! Legal or not, citizens or not, we are all humans and deserve basics rights regardless of where we may be in life and how we got there. Have some compassion, and please reconsider helping those in need - with no judgement. We all have goodness in our hearts, please try and find yours!

Being able to help others in their time of need is a gift irregardless of whether a person is "illegal" or not. Any person at any time can lose their job, home, etc. For those fortunate enough to help another, god bless you. For those who give based on citizenship, I sincerely hope you are never in a position to rely on the kindness of strangers to eat.
No one is above helping another soul in need.
