Hey Jessica, seriously, this issue about occupiable space should be very concerning to every parent.
Consider, there is no ventilation, no outside air, and using uitility closets (PTA closets) could very well be a code violation for so many reasons. Did you know that bathrooms are not considered occupiable space even though they are meant for a person to be in them for a length of time, they don't fall under the occupiable space category according to the IBC.
so what do you want me to do about it? why are you telling me? I am an angry psychotic drug dealing hooker who is up the boards ass remember??? but oh you want something done about this? you expect my help? get to a board meeting and talk to them yourself. don't attack me, slander me, badmouth me all over town and then think I will be your mouthpiece. you have a mouth so use it. I think our kids are safe. have you ever even seen the rooms they are in? no one is in the PTA closer as a classroom.

I thought that you were a go to person. I don't know why you're attacking me. After reading through many of these posts and on patch too, your name is in both places, so I assumed (incorrectly I guess) that you were in some type of loop.
Forget it, I'll call the New York State dept. of building codes.
I was planning on doing that anyhow. I do think that students are in converted PTA closets and utility rooms.
Have a nice day.

PTA closet, utility closet, what's the difference? A closet is not occupiable space. I can't seem to reach a live person at the buildings dept. but I'll keep trying.

I know what the closets look like, I have been in the schools. I get that some people think they are safe. The point is that it's not considered occupiable space for a reason. They were meant to be used as closets and never meant to be used as occupied space.
It's not a matter of feeling better about what I see, it's a question of legalities. Should these kids be in closets for resource room needs? Closing two ES was arbitrary and wrong. Proof? The use of closets to satisfy the need for more space. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!

There is absolutely no need for a PTA. It is the most ridiculous concept of all time. A group of stay at home mommies with nothing better to do than interject themselves in to the school setting with the obvious agenda of getting a little extra for their own kids and some validation. I would never try and get anything done through the PTA. I would go to the principal and up from there if need be.

you are an ASS. The PTA may be a group of stay at home mommies with nothing better to do but the fact is that they provide endless events and entertainment for YOUR children. Come on, what is your problem? There is politics wherever you go, PTA no different, but the fact is, differences aside, the PTA provides many events that do nothing but bring joy to YOUR children. Stop already. The Variety Show, Bedtime Stories, Breakfast with Santa, Bingo, I could go on and on about events run by the PTA that my kids cant wait to go to and are thrilled to have. How can you slam the PTA? You are ridiculous!

The people that the WI voters elected made a decision to consolidate the 6 ES and now that is in the past. Many voters agreed with the closing and there were endless variations that some people preferred, however the decision is done. Do the facilities meet the requirements - some parents say yes. Those parents who don't agree really need to engage the right folks and raise the issue to the school's administration or the district administration. I've found all the principals to be very responsive. I seem to remember that the enrollment was going to continue to go down. The answer might be that more rooms free up next year.

Where are the legal facts? As a taxpayer, I agreed that consolidating the 6 under utilized schools into 4 was and is a sound fiscal decision. Making it work requires a bit of flexibility and discussions on issues over opinions and emotions.

If anyone actually believes that kids are in closets being taught than you deserve to be called an idiot.

If I thought for one second my kid was being taught in a windowless fire hazard enviroment I would be up at the school with the Fire Marshall day 1. Grow up people and stop being lured into these idiotic discussions.
