Whoever did this is trash. And Newsday shouldn't make excuses by blaming the "lagging economy."

I don't think Deborah Morris, the article's writer, made any excuses when she mentioned the lagging economy potentially factoring into why someone, or more likely some people in this case, would steal an item like this. It's simply reality. I hope the statue is found for the sake of the Kay family, who I had the pleasure of meeting once and are genuine, kind-hearted people.

It's like we are living in the "Mad Max" film!

People make me sick; I hope they get it back and get the slobs who did this.

I am sickened by this story which demomnstrates how our society has so badly deteriorated.

The person(s) who stole this statue should be taken on a ship, thrown off the deck and left to drown. They have no place in society.

It is time that the politicians and the judges remove miscreants from society and give us back a decent place to live.

Watch how crime would come to a halt if criminals knew there was one strike and you're out---permanently!

Dr. Kay and his staff are the nicest and best you will find on LI. This just compounds the tragedy of the loss of Shana. I hope the thieves return the statue undamaged asap, and that the Kay family can deal with this unwarranted pain.

Then why does she mention the "lagging economy" in her article if it's not a motive or an excuse for this crime?

No, Newsday did: "Amid the lagging economy, officials have seen a surge in scrap metal thefts nationwide."

It's that liberal attitude like; "It's society's fault that this has happened and feel bad for the thief because the only reason why he steals is because the lagging economy forces to so he can feed his eight starving children so he's not really a criminal but a caring father but the lagging economy is really to blame for his actions."
Excuses! Do you understand????

I was at Camp Kinder Ring, the sleep away camp Shana attended, when she passed away and it was a horrible time for everyone. She is really missed and whoever stole the memorial, please return it. Shana was a great person and deserves to have the memorial in her name.

Hopefully the scrapmetal dealer that the thief sold the statue to will go to the police, whether it's been melted down or not. If the scrapmetal dealer does NOT come forward and is caught he should be arrested for involvement with this crime too. He is in possession of stolen goods.
