I can't speak to the Levittown of today. Times have changed, the world has changed, and I think you would be hard pressed to find a place that doesn't have some of the same problems referred to by so many of these writers. What I DO know is that Levittown was a wonderful place to grow up in the '50's and '60's. There were 3 pools within easy walking distance of my house (Azalea Rd. was my favorite), 2 Village Greens, the North Green bowling alley, Mays, etc. There were kids everywhere, always someone to play with. Some of my fondest memories are of the times all the moms on my block packed up kids and cars and went to Jones Beach for the day. I'm sorry for my own kids that they haven't been able to experience that kind of childhood. Rock on, Levittown!!

Very sad to look at what Sam S. wrote...that was not the Levittown that I lived in at all. 2 years after this was posted I can tell you that Levittown was a great place to grow up. I lived there from 1956 until 1971 on Amber Lane...so many great childhood memories... I miss the days and nights that you could hang out on your street corner without fear!!

Im a re broker in levittown and i see some of the most honest hard working people on a daily bases. To be honest i see more trash in suffolk. I think the stereo types are just a way for people to vent because the type of people moving in are different then they are use to. Dont blame levittown blame your government for allowing illegals to stay in or great country.

Your talking nonsense, many great people live & own homes in Levittown.
I remember going to Levittown when it wasn't even finished. There was only blue jays and dirt everywhere. We went to visit my Aunt. She lived in a house that wasn't quite finished yet. They had a bunch of little chicks for Easter running around. We didn't have that kind of stuff in our apartment in Queens.

I can't believe how old Levittown is now. Of course, I have hardly aged at all.

Happy Birthday Levittown!

I bet it was a great place to grow up. Alot of people from my old neighborhood went to live there from Ridgewood, Queens and Forest Hills, two other neighborhoods that were great to grow up in. Some of my best memories. I am so grateful for those good memories.

Why is it that anytime brings up fond memories of a hometown, some other jerk comes along to knock that community for real or imagined drawbacks. Hey, let's change this thread to "Talk About Your Hometown (including childhood home)." Nay-sayers and spoil-sports need not apply.

nothing beated hanging out in the sumps and village greens, smoking and drinking, then playing lets hide from the cops. i had some of the funniest and scariest times of my life there.

I wish to thank Levittown Historical Society, for all their help. I have been in touch with many individuals who lived in Levittown NY and moved to Levittown Pa during the 1950's. These individuals only have fond memories of both Levittown's. I have attend 50th Anniversary's in Levittown NY, Levittown Pa, and Levittown PR. All of the homeowners that I have talked to have great admiration for what the Levitt's have provided for their families and communities. Our oganization Levittown Internationally Known Communities and LevittownExhibitCenterNorth have put together several programs and exhibits for Levittown,Pa 60th Anniversary and the Levittown Library in the William J.Levitt Community Room during the year of 2012. If anyone lives in a Levitt built home and would like to supply information to our Archive Dept., please send information to Levittown Internationally Known Communities Inc., 18 Spindletree Road, Levittown,Pa., 19056 Thank you S.David Marable

I lived on Ivy Drive (technically Bethpage) but right around the block was Levittown where my friends and schools were. I lived there from 1958 until I left home in 1973 and moved to Colorado. When I think of where I grew up and the life we had, I always think I was lucky. We were close to everything; the beaches, the city, shopping, the arts. I had an excellent public school education and attended Nassau Community College. In my adult life I went on to get a Masters degree so I know I had a great foundation for my education and adult life. My father was an engineer, my Mom a stay at home, like most of my friends Moms. I haven't been back in 8 years so can't relate to all of the negativity in many of the comments. Oh by the way, my family is Spanish, my best friends were Jewish, Italian, Irish, German. We were then as it is now, a melting pot. It is just that the ethnicity of the ingredients has changed. All I can say is it was a great place when I was growing up
