First genertion Mexicans are nothing but a pain in the ash. Murder, tagging, robbery, break every law on the books, anchor babies, gov. aid, and now we have to pay for more gov. workers to count them. Ive had enough of these animals. All they do is take and contribute nothing. All illegals counted in the census need to be deported along with their lil anchors.

I am not happy about illegal aliens. But no person should be referred to as an animal.

26 percent who aren't citizens. How they came to find that would be interesting. So they want to count the illegals but do nothing about them being here. There should be 0 percent. That's Whittier's corrupt city officials for ya as well as with Pico Rivera. City governments allowing illegals to reside in the city is criminal. Aiding & Abetting. If I were aiding & abetting an illegal in my home I would be arrested. In this next census they had better be arresting rather then counting. Give those illegals something to fear rather then plant rose gardens for them.

It is not the city who is responsible for the 26% criminal aliens in the lower Uptown area. It is the Federal Government. Your Representative is Linda Sanchez. With a name like that, do you expect her to vote for legislation to bus these people home? The city could increase enforcement of criminal statutes, and at least get those bad apples sent home after serving their time. Our police look the other way as a policy to avoid work.

I don't advocate any use of census data for law enforcement, but they should limit the questions to only those that fulfill the constitutional mandate to count heads. Nonsense like your address beyond member of the congressional district, your telephone number, your race, your job, and if you are shacking up are not part of what the supreme law of the land was after. I know this for sure, Jefferson and Washington never took phone call from Franklin.

Rep. Sanchez, we would like our community back. Please fund the means to remove the criminal aliens from your district. Not just Mexicans Rep. Sanchez, Russians, Arabs, Canadians, and Nigerians too!

Perhaps there's a translation issue." ?

10.5 percent who aren't citizens ?

This whole illegal alien escapade and census is such a slap in the face to all American citizens who pay taxes and built our country.

And we wonder why people are pissed off at government?

Our community organizing with the Whittier Latino Coalition in partnership with the U.S. Census, City of Whittier and a diverse group of stakeholders is about making sure all of Whittier is counted correctly so that we can receive our fair share of funding from the Federal government as well as proper representation when the data is used for redistricting in 2011.

It means we will have access to more funding for better transportation, law enforcement, schools, and health/human services for our community that we all care about. This is not an issue of race, but an issue of neighbors and community.

Yes, I am a first generation Mexican-American who is proud to volunteer my time to make a difference in the community I lived in for the last 20 years.

We are not a divisive group but a group that welcomes everyone to work together unified in a common cause; making sure everyone single person who is living and breathing in Whittier is counted in the Census.

Bart Fart, the point is that your voting representation in civic government is being eroded away by counting non-citizens. That is the bigger picture here. It's about Congressional reapportionment and you losing your vote, your voice, your America.

Hello. Are you listening???

The core principles of inclusion, justice, and representation were foremost in the minds of this nation's founders and are especially relevant as we count members of our society. Inclusion will result in more funding for much needed services, justice translates to ensuring that every person who is counted becomes part of our social and civic fabric and has both rights and responsibilities, and representation reflects the goal of ensuring that we are all are given a chance to voice our opinion and be both heard and seen. In short, regardless of our political persuasion or racial/ethnic roots the fact is that by counting ALL of us we then reinforce our economic, social, and political well being for today and for tomorrow.

You just made Bart's point. If everyone is counted you gain more representation. It does not translate to illegals voting. Listen to yourself.

Putting the immigration status of the residents aside, the truth is that in the current state of our economy and the current city budget, Whittier needs as much funding as it can get. There is no time for bigotry.... There is a time and place for every argument. And it must be pointed out that it was the Legal residents of Whittier who elected it's representatives in government... not the illegal immigrants...

That's not what i said. I did not infer that illegals and resident aliens are voting (which they do in many areas of L.A. County). Have you ever heard of ACORN?

But it doesn't matter anyway because most of the census foot soldiers will get the door slammed in their face. If you are in the country illegally, your probably not going to answer questions from a government drone.

There seems to be confusion between gangbangers and illegal immigrants. I agree that criminal aliens are a pain in the rear. However, not every illegal immigrant is a criminal alien. The primary reason their status is “illegal” is because of high immigration fees that permit only the wealthy to immigrate. We do need to something about the aliens who are criminals however.
A bigger issue is that the counting of non US citizens has robbed states of their right to proper representation. As a consequence, California has at least 5 more Congressional seats than it should. This is because illegal immigrants count for district redrawing as well as for monetary appropriations. We need a constitutional amendment that says that for purposes of Congressional districting, only US citizens count.

Realistic,
Because of their role in the Census and the consequence that has on Congressional apportionment, illegal immigrants are playing a role in who gets elected to Congress and who gets elected President.

You forget the federal government has multi trillion dollar debt thanks to Obama. There is no federal money for them to hand out to anyone. Every dime has already been spent. There are no extra federal funds just sitting around waiting to be allocated. Even the state government is bankrupt. There goes your monetary argument. How are we supposed to get extra federal or state funds if those monies don’t even exist?

Everyone in Whittier will benefit when we have the best possible census count. I helped facilitate community census participation in south Los Angeles in 1990 and 2000. Everyone who lives and breathes in Whittier (and everywhere) should be counted. Some may be confused, the census is not related to migration status or statehood of any individual. Please encourage all of your friends to participate fully in the Census process. It will be good for all.

Wait. This is a completely different subject, but we are in a multi-trillion dollar deficit because of the Bush administration. Obama put us more in debt because of a shrinking economy thus stimulus money what any administration would do; but this is a completely different subject. This is a discussion on the Census and if California gets more representation then good for us because we sure don't get our fair share of taxes back. I am proud to be a Californian and stick it to the other freeloader states as much as possible. We are roughly 10% of the GDP and the 8th largest economy in the world; we put more then other states in the system and should expect our equal share.
