Opinion: Meet Long Beach's newest state senator

Nov 29, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: LA Daily News

Ricardo Lara may be new to Long Beach but the state lawmaker is clearly ready to face some of the city's challenges head-on, from bolstering trade through the port to reducing congestion on 710 Freeway.

I was under the impression the latter were the job creators? What happened to one of the biggest talking points the republicans had for their presidential campaign?

I can't believe what a moron you are, and you don't even know it. The largest job creators is the us government who hire the otherwise unhireable. and load them up with pensions.
Just give it up. You look like an idiot... again.

There it is, name calling...typical conservative. I will admit conservatives are right about the rich being the job creators. Only problem is the jobs they create are in other countries.

We would have been better off keeping Davis, at least he was strong on law and order.
"law and order," aka "git tuff on crime and reefer madness," is usually a conservative thing, and it has bloated the prisons, creating one of the biggest drains on CA's budget. Thankfully, progressive voters, and SOME libertarians, voted to get rid of 3 strikes, which will hopefully free up more money for the state. I guess right now conservatives are too scared of muslims and communists to have spent time fighting the 3 strikes repeal.

You will learn more about life as you mature and realize that Socialism has NEVER worked anywhere in the World for very long. Never. Anywhere.

As Thatcher said, "Socialism only works until you run out of other peoples money".

Heres the thing: conservatives have always hated California, even in strong economies. The WORLD-WIDE poor economy is just a convenient excuse.

I know, I know it's just so horrible that we used to hold criminals responsible for their own actions. Can you believe those dark old days when felons were kept in prisons. It's just like keeping score at a kid's soccer game, the loser might get their feelings hurt. Oh the bad old days.

No one is going to prison for simple possession of "reefer" so our prisons were never bloatd with dope smokers.

Honey you are living proof that the State Democratic Party leadership was 100% correct in their 1998 assessment that Calif. Democratic voters were the stupidest losers in America and they could be robbed, used, and abused by the Party at will.

Fact: we (the land of the free) have more of our population in prison than anyone else in the world, even over china, russian, and many 3rd world hell holes.
Conservatives - quit acting like hard core criminals are getting a mere slap on the wrist and left free to roam the streets. Knee jerk policies based on fear and bad information are costing this state a ton of money.

Oh please enlighten us as to whom you believe is unjustly in prison. Our court system bends over backward to keep people out of prison. Read the story about the Northridge killer who was on probation for a meth charge. He couldnít be bothered with showing up for court on time and missed appointments with his probation officer. If his probation had been revoked he would have been back in prison where he belonged (he had a prior robbery conviction) or at the very least in jail. With him behind bars four people would still be alive. Please donít tell me about our prisons being overcrowded with people convicted of minor drug offences. That is just a myth.

And do you really believe Lara does not have full support of the unions. That man or what ever she is, is bought and paid for by the unions. It's just really sad like I stated earlier that someone can run for a senate seat with no opposition especially after just serving two years in the assembly.

Sure you did. You just hoped they would be stupid enough to stay here to be tax slaves to fund Big Govt's outrageous excesses.

Jessica.

Yes. You are right. More enlightened societies do not bother with using hard earned taxpayer money to imprison thieves, murderers, and rapists. They just cut the hands off of the thieves and "necklace" the murderers and the rapists.

The U.S. has invaded half of them on the taxpayer dime, with right wing politicians leading the charge (but not going themselves, naturally).

If you righties like "more enlightened" places where they chop off body parts for stealing a 50 cent piece of bread to feed a starving family, you are always free to move.

We wrestled the institution of slavery from your bloody paws, and are currently trying to wrestle your indentured servants you call "affordable nannies" and "reasonably priced gardeners" from your wretched clutches.

Correct me if I was wrong, but my understanding was that it was you who was complaining about the use of hard earned taxpayer money to incarcerate thieves, bloodthirsty murderers, and sadistic rapists.

Nope, when they have to resort to name calling it tells me I am winning the debate.
