He's Ayer's Webmaster

re: Jeff (Mayes) pretty much has 98-percent control over what goes up on the Web site.
In light of the risk he put Ayer when he violated the PanAM consent decree this guy's head should be on the chopping block. He knew or should have known better. Mayes and the committe report directly to the BOS and thus it is the BOS that is responsible. They are now responsible to clean up this mess and should dismiss the entire committee. To sweep this under the rug is business as usual. The paper can do a puff piece to impact public opinion but that doesn't undo the potential damage to the town.

I doubt the Town will even admit there was any wrong doing ,I agree it will be business as usual in Ayer. cross our fingers and hope there is no costly litigation, the Town already has two high profile lawsuits against it , you would think they'd learn.

I know Jeff. He is a good person and surely did not intentionally violate the consent decree w/PanAm. Jeff is in something of a catch-22 in that he correctly believes the townspeople are entitled to know everything that goes on in town government and otherwise but has little to no support from the department heads or boards responsible for disseminating information. As a result he pretty much goes it alone, using what information is available, to update the website and bring the town into the technology age. What concerns me more is the consulting work awarded in $5000 'increments' to a pal of Selectman Gilles and member of the Communications Cmte, who has access to all town departments and information, including confidential material, at the direction of the BoS. By keeping the contract at $5000 it does not have to go out to bid or require discussion by the BoS but can be renewed by the town administrator. So, how much has been spent to date and just where is the money coming from anyway?

With Mr Gilles planning background , many potential
conflicts, Harvard, Devens, why do you think he is an advocate of regional or shared services, it benefits his projects using Ayer's services these communities lack. politics as usual at taxpayers expense, hypocrites

So please tell is more. What exactly is the relationship between Gilles and a Committee member
and the consultant? Of course by Gilles having a family member on the committee he recuses himself since it is a conflict of interest. Doesn't he?
If this were at the state level we would be reading about it. Too bad nobody in the new reporting business knows about this as it would make a nice investigating reporting article.
