Emil was a dear friend of mine and a wonderful man. I wrote his story and the book was published in 2008. His stories and many adventures are so inspiring to so many. He was one of Southern California's true pioneer surfers (surf riders) and watermen. Started in 1928 in Mission Beach. My heart is sadden for his passing I will miss speaking with him and listening to his stories. He is with his beloved Sarah now. Sarah and the ocean was his true passion for life. In 2007 Emil received award from Surf Rider Foundation and 2008 was honorably recognized into California Surf Museum for his accomplishments. Pauline thank you for the wonderful article.
In 1929 a friend gave Emil a photo on back of photo his friend had ask Emil "What kind of men go to heaven?" I will never forget the time I was with Emil and he shared with me his most treasured past photos. I picked this up and read back and Emil replied, "Men with souls and feelings of respect for others and the ones they love" It was so powerful!! My friend is now in Heaven. You will be missed David Aguirre
