Our View: Make Pa. smoking ban complete
Pennsylvania lawmakers have an opportunity to improve on something they got mostly right in 2008, when the Legislature passed the Clean Indoor Air Act to ban smoking inside most businesses and public places.

Its about time that Pennsylvania catches up with the rest of the "smart" states and completely ban smoking inside ANY public building. Our neighboring states were quick to realize that smoking is harmful and took the right steps to ban it.
Anyone who is against the complete ban is ignorant of the damage done to non smokers. They really don't care about anyone but themselves.

Public health doesn't deserve additional smoking bans. Five years ago we were told it was an indoor smoking ban but Pa. Gov Rendell asserted that it applied to the outdoor areas of state university campuses. State health officials yielded to that absurd stretching of the law despite endorsing smoking on restaurant decks. The same government health dept. that disregarded warnings about a Philly clinic where babies were murdered will quickly respond to a report of an "innocent" bar patron being exposed to a whiff of secondhand smoke. If this behavior makes sense to you then go ahead and give the state additional laws.

Ban the Smoking 50 feet from any public buildings door, Ban the smoking in vehicles that are workplaces, ban smoking any time children are close enough to breath second hand smoke (even in the privacy of a home) period! End of story! We can't enforce the law we already have on the books so how are we going to enforce a stricter one?

I must ask how is the smoking bans going to be enforced. Not enough law enforcement now to work on major crimes let alone enforce smoking. Also if the smoking ban is enforced what privilages will be taken away next. You can't eat a Big Mack, Wopper, or fast food in public or in your own car becuase it shows bad eating habbits in public. Or maybe you wont even be allowed to play music of your choice while you drive down the road because it offends them or not their type of music.
Whom is to say what privilages or rights the gov't might be taken away. Smoking in your house ??? I believe this is a bet to far. Whats next. Controling what you watch on tv in your own house?
