What a publicity hound!! I'll bet if she farted loud, she'd try to have it in the paper as well. Blame partly lies with Sentinel as well. She is one of only a few public officials that will talk to them. Must be a slow day in Juniata Valley if this is front page news. She didn't do anything memorable while on Borough Council why should it be any different now? Always on the search for ways to blow her horn. Friendship with Berrier must have rubbed off on her.

What is wrong with a little bit of good PR? It was fun human interest story. No harm in it at all.

There is another Mayor story in the paper today, The Juniata Terrace Mayor, Martin Lantz. First of all I am not talking bad about the man because I don't even know him. I would have liked to pull up a Coke case and sit down beside him outside of Wilson's Store and talk for hours about all the things he remembers about Lewistown and Juniata Terrace. The reason for his retirement is what bugs me, He forgot to fill out the paper work to be on the ballot, FORGOT oop's, now how important is the mayors job? I read a lot about the Harrisburg Mayor, Mayor Reed, every time you hear about crime in Harrisburg, the Mayor is the person giving the press conference. It may be different under Harrisburg's new mayor. Not here in Lewistown or Juniata Terrace, so they Marry a few people, Be availabe for photo op's and receiving grants, and I guess as West Ender says our Lewistown Mayor is a puppet for Councilman Berrier, but how important is that job? At 84 years of age and to foget about filling out the paperwork to be on the ballot, What do they call that when old people forget. I was going to write more but I forgot what it was.

It varies depending on the Borough Code and Class of City.

Mayors in cities generally have a lot more power than mayors in boroughs, and can unilaterally make decisions that affect budgets, police departments, road departments, etc. There are exceptions, of course. Mayors in big cities often earn well over $100,000 and they deserve every penny if they do a good job.

Borough mayors are typically ambassadors of good will, and perform primarily ceremonial duties, which I believe is the case for Juniata Terrace. There are exceptions. Some mayors get a council vote. Some mayors perform managerial functions. In a borough the size of Lewistown that is a full time job. Of course, Lewistown has a full time borough manager.

I remember old Tom Lawler in Lewistown from the good old days. He was a character.

I'm actually not saying this just to be a dick, but is there some sort of point to this post? I don't understand what you're asking/getting at?

Now this is just for JunkE, "he's not on the same level" but does anyone other than JunkE not understand that if you want to be the Mayor and you are serious about it, how could you forget to fill out the paperwork required. Part #2 If you can forget that easy ,it makes you wonder how important the job can be. They are suppose to be able to break the tie vote in council decisions, Now another Joke , if they don't forget to showup for the meeting. Did you get that?

No, I'm not on the "same level" as you LR. I can guarantee you that!

I'm guessing if you and I were sitting somewhere face to face I could possibly understand your incoherent ramblings, but they don't come across clearly when you type them. Reading your post over a few times, I understand you're saying the mayor is old and might suffer from memory loss but I fail to pull any conclusions from your post. I didn't know if you were saying the mayor should have not lost his job over a minor detail or if you thought he deserved to lose it because he neglected to do his paperwork, or something else, etc........

Point is, you don't come across clear in your posts. And I'm not referring to small spelling mistakes or little grammatical errors. I'm talking about your inability to communicate effectively in complete coherent sentences while staying on topic.

Someone Please tell junkE if the mayor cannot remember to do the necesary paperwork to put his name on the ballot after holding that position for 23 years, then maybe it's time to give it up. DUH.

All you have to do is say it in plain English like that. Re-read your original post, you never said that.

Because the Mayors job is not that simple in a lot of places and I also metioned some of a mayors duties in them places, and you wouldn't be allow to forget that easy on important issues if you wanted to be the Mayor making decisions.
