The newest board member of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission isn't really that new at all.

If it weren't for enjoying the outdoors I would do the same thing. Now that I think about it I always caught more trout before we had to buy the stamp.
Then they come up with this genious deer hunting plan that will get us all these monster bucks running around the woods. BULL.
The button bucks are shot off as does, the legal bucks are shot off as are the rest of the doe.
Where the HECK are all these huge bucks going to come from now??
If you don't have private land to manage yourself and to hunt on you are in for a very boring hunting season.
This genious was so smart as most, he had no common sense.
Same old same old, they just want the money.

Glad I live close enough to the border to buy a MD license. I can shoot UNLIMITED deer in Baltimore county, but only one in York county, unless I send in that extra fee for an extra deer!

The word is GREED. In the 50's - 70's it was run pretty much by fishermen and hunters, fees and limits were fair. Politicians only care about bucks, and I don't mean ones with antlers.
I miss hunting and fishing PA mts and streams but not the political BS.

Hey right on?

Licenses are not always the unfair restrictions they seem to be. Irritating...sure...but fair mostly.

But they are not going to be fair for you hunters soon it seems!...and that is wrong!

It is abusive probably, unless the govt has good and REAL reasons for an increase. The rivers, habitats etc are used by sportsman OK...but that cost should be better shared by all citizens as the environment belongs to all of us.

Licenses rely upon 'user pays' notions of fairness...so that others do not have to cover costs when thet do not use the resources or cause any harm to other innocent beings. eg fishing / flying.

Licenses also force us to learn and then we can be warned of dangers early before we act. eg driving licenses.

We also avoid trusting other people mistakenly, unsafely, by having licenses that are granted as rewards after studying eg doctors.

Licenses also define and protect us legally. eg marriage.

Licensing places the user cost fair and square back on to the person licensed. We do not get hit with costs that do not concern us.

That is exactly why we need licenses also for casino gamblers. They use potentially very harmful products like slots, that cause high rates of addiction and they create very high medical and welfare costs...and they lose money needed for their innocent families. Unfairly. Casino gamblers also include under-aged and self-excluded gamblers who should NOT be in casinos.

Because right now they get off scot free wihtout a license...everyone else has to pay their costs, but them! We would all benefit from casino gambler licenses.

Singapore licenses its gamblers and they have to pay $1400USD a year in 4 lots, before they can gamble at all, in casinos. The system works well. It should be applied in the US and elsewhere.

It is also why we should license drug users...then sell them cheap drugs and break the black market sytem. Gets drug addicts into healthy support asap.

Licenses are NOT the nannyish tools at all that they seem and that seems to annoy you right now.

They protect everyone and save them money...if used properly...to protect and to cover harm costs, to give freedom to act legally.

You fish and hunt..so why should you not pay a fair fee? Though I know you would not balk at a fair fee. I agree with Realist, fees must be realistic. Not greedy. Equal everywhere. This latest round is rot if one group is hit too hard, for political reasons.

Any rule and measure should be nation-wide..not state-wide only, as Roscoe points out. One rule should apply to everyone. It is ludicrous that MD has such a widely different bag limit to PA.

That is NOT fair! PA is not listening. It will lose license fees altogether if people hunt elsewhere.

Governments need to spread the use of licenses...to cover a whole new range of situations. OR increase the tax more on other goods like junk food...like it does on cigarettes.
The whole 'dangerous goods' deal needs review. Costs and tax levies need to be more equally spread.

Instead you are being hit unfairly...in the hope that you will not complain because you just love to hunt and asa recreation group you might not be well organized to mount a fight. That is lazy, short-sighted government. It is also very selfish if you are being forced to cover others' costs.

Some of you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about,.. it's NOT about money! State fish & wildlife agencies are not generally funded by the states general fund, in other words your taxes DON'T pay their bills! License fees by these agencies are how they get their operating funds.

So, for the privilege to hunt or fish you pay a fee, and in return the agency is able to manage the fisheries and wildlife resources so you have a place to enjoy the outdoors.

One reader commented on private lands and he is on target,.. as anti-hunters and anti-gun advocates pursue their agendas hunting lands are harder to come by,.. and more landowners are turning to leasing their lands for hunting because of the profit motive.

You DON'T want state legislators regulating your wildlife agencies by making them funded agencies. That's when you will see the reality of politics managing the resource instead of the people who use it, hunters & fishermen!
