What is the booming noise that I am hearing in the mornings toward Humboldt? It sounds like the round testing they used to do at the arsenal - Anyone know?

Those are pneumatic cannons set up in the vineyards at the winery, by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, to scare off fox and coyotes...who love to eat grapes! This years crop has proven a particularily attractive one and the harvest has been decimated by them eating so many. The devices come on at dusk, and randomly 'fire' throughout the night, hopefully keeping the fox and coyote at bay until the remaining crop can be harvested. Now you know!

Randomly through the night? you don't live close enough to know that they go off about every 5 minutes. Come all you would be hunters, get out there and get rid of them. Then we can ALL sleep in peace. How the people who live across the road or those staying at the Deerfield Inn are putting up with this , is beyond me. The winery is within city limits, what happened to the noise ordinance.

I only hear it in the distance, when I'm sitting on my porch in the early morning, a friend of mine heard it through the night and asked if I knew what it was. I know if I was closer to it I would not be a happy camper. It seems that the agriculture dept could come up with a quieter solution to the problem.

Wondering. The comment about not living close was to Berry Man. All through the night, every 5 minutes. This has been going on since Monday night. The owner of the vineyard should get a different solution. Obviously thy don't care about the locals. Coyote hunting is legal. There are many hunters out there that would get rid of them just for the actual hunting experience.
I am very sleep deprived and so must be many people and children in that part of town.

I took no offense to your comment, I imagine I would be pretty upset if it was close enough to me to keep me awake. We are a few miles out and can hear it, I can't imagine living right up on it.I agree that there should be a better solution, or at least a noise violation. Maybe you should contact someone at city hall. The winery is in the city limits. Hope something is done soon for you, good luck.

1) I was just explaining what was causing the noise,
2) I don't live close enough to hear it,

They might be harvesting today. Funny there was no air cannon during the 'winedown', wouldn't want to scare the paying customers away. Live locally and they couldn't care less. Will this recur next year. Get rid of the coyotes would seem to be solution. Cause I for one will not put up with it. Hope they get a bill for all the trouble they caused the police because they did not inform them what was happening.
