This copier issue has been going on for awhile. How about you actually show up to the board meetings and become informed? Also, stand up and speak your mind in open forum because no one did the other night. If you are too shy, I'm sure that you could approach anyone on the board with a concern and they would bring it up during new business or something. Change only comes with action, people.

In December, the board received bids from different companies for the same copy machines, printers and faxes as the school currently owns. The bids received reflected that the school could be saving money by using a different company.
Last month, Brad Greer brought the issue up and asked that the board again go out for bids and switch companies to create a savings. There was a big long argument about how there is a contract through this year with the current company (Ikon) that Daugherty signed four years ago. Brad said that it isn't a legally binding contract and can be broken at any time. The others were worried about getting in a sticky legal battle with Ikon over breaking the contract and then being forced to pay for both the current contract and a new one.
The decision was made Monday to stay with the current contract through the year. We'll see if it actually goes out for bids at that time.

"if you care" sounds like you are up on this copier deal. But sure seems school board needed a legal opinion on copier contact. Maybe Tony and Board should find out information before they voted. Oh by the way they voted the all to familiar Tony D. way.. dont worry if things keep going Tony way you"ll have the state Department of Education and Sandy Garret to contend with....word of hugo school district is getting around..

NO different than what is going on with Hugo's Superintendent Tony Daugherty!!!!
Former Skiatook superintendent accused of embezzlement
Tulsa County grand jury indictments unsealed Tuesday accuse former Skiatook Public Schools Superintendent Gary Johnson of embezzlement and receiving bribes, both felonies.
Also made public was an "accusation for removal" seeking to oust from office Skiatook Board of Education President Kenneth Cooper.
As first reported Tuesday on tulsaworld.com , Johnson, 55, of Tulsa, surrendered to authorities shortly before noon and was released after posting $7,000 bail.
Issued Friday by grand jurors, the indictments grew from a state audit released in February that revealed the school district paid Oklahoma City middleman Rick Enos — through his companies E&E Sales and Austin Security —$570,000 more than it would have paid for custodial supplies and security equipment had it bought them directly.
For such items as trash cans, sanitizer and mop heads, the school often paid double, triple or quadruple the open market price through E&E Sales, according to the audit, which spanned May 1, 2004, to Jan. 31, 2009.
"There is a critical difference between honest mistakes and criminal conduct. Dr. Johnson will enter pleas of not guilty, and we will proceed from there."
Cooper, who failed to immediately return a phone message, will be given a chance to answer the allegation against him July 8 in district court, according to court records.
The bribery of a public official indictment, also known as "officers receiving bribes," alleges that Johnson received money as superintendent with the intent to give preferential treatment to Enos' companies.
He allegedly did so by directing the Skiatook school board to approve all recommended payments as charged by E&E Sales, Inc., for custodial supplies and security equipment at prices greatly in excess of open market prices, documents show.
The embezzlement charge claims Johnson, in an effort to benefit himself, caused documents to be falsified $25,000 above open market prices to support the charging invoices of Enos and his companies, records indicate.
Both alleged crimes took place between Jan. 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2008, documents claim.
While reviewing for approval numerous invoices from E&E Sales, Inc./Austin Security Co., he failed to request proper supporting documents, per his duty, records show.
"As a result of his habitual neglect of duty, and/or willful mal-administration," Cooper allowed payments to be made to the company exceeding open market prices by $238,000, as evidenced by the state audit report, the accusation claims.
Skiatook parent Jason Willingham petitioned for the convening of the grand jury, which met for three weeks and heard 32 witnesses.
"Hopefully, the school board will listen to the recommendations of the grand jury, do the things they need to do to serve the community, implement those changes and go forward from here."
"This has obviously been a huge embarrassment for our town, for our school district," Willingham said. "Nobody wants to be on the front page of the newspaper or the front two or three stories on the newscast every night.
"But the community felt we had no other options, other than to do it like this. We certainly hope the public officials will take notice that the citizens can and will do something."
The bribery count against Johnson carries upon conviction up to 10 years in prison, Harris said. The embezzlement charge carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and/or up to a year in the Tulsa Jail and a $5,000 fine, the DA said.

HUGO NEEDS TO START A RUCKUS TOO !!!!

A ruckus
Skiatook report lesson for all

The Tulsa County grand jury investigating questions about the Skiatook Public Schools has returned a harsh critique of the school district.
The jury indicted two people and issued a report that says the district lacked financial checks and balances.
The jury called for better education for district leadership and a tighter auditing process.
The jury also was critical of the district's interim superintendent, Steve Williams, saying he didn't appear to understand the duties of his job or have adequate knowledge of the district finances. The jury said it has no confidence in his ability to serve as a top district leader.
The jury also recommended that the school board hire a new attorney who can help be more open with the public.
We congratulate the grand jury for its efforts to delve into complicated questions in a limited amount of time. The jury's members have proven that citizens can take the lead in investigating local government and demanding better service.
We also congratulate District Attorney Tim Harris for taking the probe seriously and treating the questions raised by petition organizers with respect and vigor.
Kudos, too, to the grand jury petition organizers and the state auditor's office, which first raised questions about the district.
The grand jury report represents a beginning, not an end. Two indicted people deserve their day in court, and the people of the Skiatook school district need to study the grand jury report and take its suggestions seriously.
Indeed, it would be wise for school patrons everywhere to look at the report and consider what it might suggest about their own school district. We can speak with assurance that Skiatook is not the only Oklahoma school district that has trouble with open government and inadequately examined finances.
The people of Skiatook got fed up with how things were going, and they raised a ruckus. Good for them. Oklahoma's schools could use some more ruckus, and a lot of change. By World's Editorial Writers

I see on this thread a few concerned citizens that actually attended some meetings, acouple more just snooping, a board member or Tony supporter, and someone who reads the Tulsa World. If you are going to come on a site like Topix to air out your bitches, then I'm sure you've read some of this trash on here. Surely you've seen the threads about racial problems in the school, kids that can't spell, parents pulling their kids out to transport to other towns for an education, etc...now I'll air out a bitch to the lot of you;

#1 Explain to me what the problem is that is creating an exodus of our parents removing their kids from Hugo to go to out of area schools??

#2 Explain to me what you are doing to correct this problem and bring our children home??

If you don't have an answer to EITHER of those questions, what is your value sitting on that board???
