While this is an extremely worthy cause, I find it hard to believe that Ms. Diel doesn't have homeowners insurance to cover this loss, or if she doesn't own the home, that she didn't have renter's insurance to cover the loss of personal property by theft, i.e. the wheelchair. I will donate.

I agree with the previous poster. I don't fault the mother for forgetting to lock the door; I've forgotten a handful of times to shut my garage door at night and could have been robbed too. But her homeowner's insurance should cover personal property and even if she has a $1,000 deductible it'd be worth it to file the claim. If she doesn't have homeowner's insurance, then she doesn't hold a mortgage...and could she then afford a new wheelchair?

Even if she does have homeowners, she will need to come up with the deductable. She is a widow with 3 kids, one with special needs who has been through numerous surgeries this summer. The deductable may be nothing to you, and I'm happy for you, but for many it's hard to come up with the extra $$$. Add onto that the medical bills she has for her daughter and it adds up fast. Insurance rates also go up when a claim is filed. She could be paying for what this low life loser did to her and her family for many years. I hope many people have a heart and choose to help, sounds to me like she deserves it.

Why does she deserve it? Because life has handed her challenges? Because of her moment of forgetfulness she was robbed and doesn't want to have her homeowner's insurance rates increase? Why is this anyone else's responsibility? Stuff happens in life, you make the best of it...you don't expect others to step up for you. No, a deductible would not be easy for me to come up with, but I'd rather do that than throw a pity party to the press and suck money off the hard work of others.

Pity party...she has said on the news and in papers how much she appreciates everything offered to her, and she would not take a cent unless absolutely needed. I find it hard to believe you would not accept any help if the roles were reversed. I can only imagine the medical bills she must be occuring, and now this. Whats wrong with accepting help if offered. If you don't want to help, thats great, but why blame her for some scumbags actions. Hope you never need help from anyone. It's the actions of people like you that is hurting this country right now, you sound like a very selfish person. I bet you are the type that would keep someones purse if you found it under a shopping cart at the store, and then blame the "stupid" person for losing it as you took all the cash from it. Remember, what comes around goes around..karma's a bitch.

No, it's not actions like mine that are hurting this country...it's people believing that because life's handed them some challenges that it's everyone else's responsibility to carry them. Again...child with medical conditions, you have a job that provides health insurance and if not, then the government is already taking care of your medical bills for you. Have a house and valuable vehicles/wheelchairs? Insurance. Don't want to file an insurance claim? Not my problem. I won't donate because there are many more deserving people who don't go to a newspaper to solicit money when life hands them challenges. And that's exactly what happened...either this woman or her family went to the media to solicit sympathy.
