Lino Lakes Prison

My son who was raised a Christian but has mental issues and addiction issues joined some white racist group there last May. It is a false pagan b.s. religion called asatru. He recently wrote a small article in this thing called the "Lino Ledger". Does anybody know anything about this newspaper or printing? Lino Lakes is supposedly "a faith based" prison. Bet it's a privatized but government funded one. I know son took some class on Northern European heritage then next thing he was into this paganism with the skinhead neo nazi's in there. I am fuming! And, about to write Gov. Dayton.

How's it going? You ask if anyone knows about the Lino Ledger. I am smiling a little, because I guess I would be the person you should speak with. Me and one other guy were the Editors of the Lino Ledger from 2010 to 2012. I am sorry to hear that your son joined a white racist group. I probably know who he is, and I probably received and printed his article during my time there. Most likely I have a copy of the issue/volume in my desk here somewhere. Although I cannot state any sort of opinion about Asatru as a religion in general, I will say that it is my opinion that you are correct about the Asatru meetings in Lino. The line I cannot agree with in your posting would be:

Lino Lakes is not a faith-based prison. It is a normal MN state prison just like all other Department of Corrections prisons as can be seen here:

There is a wonderful Christian program operating there called Innerchange Freedom Initiative, which is wholly funded by Chuck Colson's Prison Ministry Foundation, and not at all by the state. However, if your son is involved with Asatru, I highly doubt he is in this program.
Let me know if you are wondering anything about Lino or how things work there with the paper. Regular members of the public can subscribe to the Lino Ledger and receive it in the mail if they like.

Reply: Lino Lakes is a state prison, medium custody with a population of 1300. They have several programs which include: education, Alcohol treatment, Sex offender treatment and IFI which is a christian faith based religious program, which is voluntary. They also house return violaters and have recently started housing Youth offenders who are sentenced to an adult facility.
The Lino Ledger is an offender newspaper and all articles are approved by adminsitration staff before printing.
